Happy International Literacy Day 📚 SC Johnson is a proud to support programs and organizations aimed at enhancing literacy levels across the world! Today, we are highlighting some of the programs that champion literacy improvement, nurture reading skills, and encourage continuous learning: 📘In Racine, Wisconsin, our work with the Racine Public Library annually supports the Battle of the Books, a literature reading contest for 4th and 5th graders in the Racine area. 📗Our partnership with the Teach for the Philippines is helping to deliver quality literacy, numeracy and life skills education to public school students by recruiting and training qualified educators to support local education systems. 📙 In Brantford, Canada, our work with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library helps increase the love of reading among young children by supplying thousands of free books. 📕SC Johnson partners with Mathare Youth Sports Association in Kenya to help support a local library in promoting reading, book lending, learning, computer skills and sign language training in a safe learning environment.

Even after nearly 140 years, doing what’s right never gets old. Helping eradicate malaria is one way SC Johnson remains a family company at work for a better world.

Back to school is here, and so is @scjohnsonprofessional's Happy Hands student art contest! Through November 30, 2024, K-12 students in the US can use their creative skills and imagination to design a custom SC Johnson Professional soap/sanitizer dispenser. This contest helps students understand the vital role they play in minimizing the spread of germs at school, and helping them reinforce good hand hygiene at home. By using their expertise in biology, behavior, and disease prevention, they help protect families around the globe from insects and the diseases they may carry, like malaria, dengue and others. World Mosquito Day, on August 20, recognizes the day Sir Ronald Ross discovered that female Anopheles mosquitoes spread malaria.

In 2022, 175 nations agreed to develop a legally-binding agreement on plastic pollution - the #GlobalPlasticsTreaty - which aims to serve as a blueprint for the future, improving plastic circularity on a scale that wouldn't be achievable without a united effort from governments and international organizations. This week, 2 expert groups met to analyze potential funding sources for the treaty's implementation, as well as identify and analyze approaches for plastic packaging, including product designs which focus on the recyclability and reusability...something SCJ knows a thing or two about. ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/g_HX8N2v

A large challenge in the path to circularity is in waste management infrastructure, especially when it comes to addressing the challenges in plastic recycling.   That’s one reason why our Chairman and CEO, H Fisk Johnson, advocates for regulations that incentivize packaged goods companies like SC Johnson to design products with better end-of-life management. These would promote product innovations in recyclability, recycled content usage, and re-use and refill options, which help reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills or the ocean.   In Indonesia, the Indonesia Packaging Recovery Organization, IPRO, is already making progress in developing a robust waste management program supported by SC Johnson, to help keep plastic waste from polluting their waterways.   Why is recycling plastic so hard?
