Australia and Singapore signed an MOU in 2020 to further cooperation to advance low emissions solutions and technologies. Building on this commitment, the country’s leading R&D government organisations A*Star and CSIRO signed a collaboration agreement allowing the two institutions to partner with industry through a 2+2 Partnership. The 2+2 project “Towards Circular Economies for Lithium-Ion Batteries,” was successfully funded with SK Tes (TES-AMM) Australia and Singapore participating as industry partners. 3 work packages were identified as part of the project: - Green technologies for recycling Li-ion batteries. - Green technologies for recovering graphite. - Lifecycle assessment of battery recycling process at SK Tes Singapore. A starting point of the LCA research was providing a baseline for achieving greener, more circular and sustainable materials and technologies. The work identified key areas to achieve reductions in costs, energy, waste and greenhouse gas emissions and improve quality at our Singapore and Australian facilities. The 2+2 Project is a pioneering collaboration in lithium-ion battery recycling progressing recycling and upcycling in Australia and the ASEAN region. I am pleased to be a part of this strategic work impacting the region with colleagues and the A*Star and CSIRO teams.
