Cotton arrival in Pakistan witnessed a significant increase of 13.3% as of October 31 compared to October 15, showed the latest fortnightly data released by the Pakistan Cotton Ginner’s Association (PCGA) on Friday. As per the report, total cotton arrival in Pakistan rose to 6.791 million bales compared to 5.996 million bales recorded on October 15, 2023, an increase of 0.795 million bales. On a year-on-year basis, cotton arrival in surged by over 83%, when compared to 3.708 million bales registered on October 31, 2022. Last year, flash floods in Pakistan devastated large swathes of agricultural land in the country, especially in Sindh and Balochistan, impacting cotton crop production, which witnessed a 34% YoY decline. The improvement in cotton arrivals, an essential raw material for the textile sector, is a welcome development for cash-strapped Pakistan. “I’M JUST LYING. I JUST LIE” – BOOHOO BUYER TACTICS EXPOSED IN BBC DOCUMENTARY: Cowboy purchasing practices employed by British fast fashion brand Boohoo Group PLC will be exposed in a BBC documentary. A reporter for the broadcaster went undercover at Boohoo’s head office. She discovered: - Evidence of staff pressuring suppliers to drive prices down - even after deals had been agreed - "Go in low and if you're not getting anywhere then just say that you can get it cheaper elsewhere," a colleague told her. "I'm just lying. I just lie." - In a single day the reporter was asked to process a 5 per cent cut on more than 400 orders that had already been agreed - Price cuts were also demanded for orders that had been made and were ready for delivery - Boohoo's executive chairman approved all new orders confirming that bosses are aware of these bad practices - The report comes a year after Boohoo's efforts to tackle supply chain issues via its Agenda for Change programme were declared a "success" by Sir Brian Leveson. NOTE: Earlier this year when it came to light that Boohoo was demanding 20 per cent discounts from suppliers, we approached the Sustainable Apparel Coalition and asked whether Boohoo’s membership would be revoked.
