The finalization of Pakistan's EV charging infrastructure policy has stalled due to poor coordination between the National Centre for Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (NEECA) and the Engineering Development Board (EDB). Despite BYD's plans to manufacture EVs in Pakistan, uncertainty remains over when charging stations will be available. Draft regulations for EV charging stations, created by NEPRA, have yet to be finalized due to stakeholder disagreements. The Federal Minister for Power has urged a swift resolution to these issues to facilitate a potential $250 million investment and the development of a robust EV charging infrastructure across the country. 🌞 Balochistan's Untapped Renewable Energy Potential 🌬️ The World Bank highlighted Balochistan's vast VRE potential to electrify the province and help Pakistan achieve its 30% VRE target in its latest study. With its rich solar and wind resources, Balochistan offers economically viable opportunities for renewable energy generation. This can lead to significant GHG emissions savings and contribute to a sustainable energy future for Pakistan. 🔋 Key Findings: - PV potential: 2,000-2,500 kWh/m², with grid utilization factors up to 35%. - DNI: Up to 2,500 kWh/m² annually for CSP opportunities. - Wind power: Up to 15 GW potential in Chagai and Panjgur. By developing these resources, Balochistan can become a leader in clean energy, driving economic growth and reducing electricity costs for other provinces.
