It's an interesting read! As the world prepares for the crucial COP29 biodiversity summit in Baku, Azerbaijan, it's evident that progress towards the ambitious goals set in the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework is lagging. The rate of nature destruction continues unabated, and many countries have yet to submit their national conservation plans. Funding remains a significant obstacle, with the goal of $20 billion annually for developing countries by 2025 falling short. The Global Biodiversity Framework Fund, established to address this issue, has received limited contributions. The summit presents an opportunity to course-correct and revitalize efforts to protect biodiversity. It's imperative that countries come together to strengthen their commitments, increase funding, and implement effective conservation strategies.

China Could Cut CO2 Emissions by a Third by 2030! 🌍 According to the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA), China is on track to meet its 2030 climate targets and could cut carbon dioxide emissions by 30% by 2035, aligning with the Paris Agreement if it submits more ambitious pledges next year. As the world’s largest GHG emitter, China’s renewable energy growth and policy advancements could have a significant impact on global efforts to mitigate climate change. This potential reduction is attributed to China's ongoing advancements in renewable energy, such as meeting its 2030 wind and solar capacity target six years early. However, the need for stronger climate targets remains, particularly in hard-to-abate sectors like steel and cement. For businesses and policymakers, these developments highlight both the opportunities and challenges ahead in the journey towards sustainability. As we continue to focus on global climate action, it will be interesting to find out how these shifts will shape sustainable markets and grid infrastructure worldwide. 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/dgKMM-EC #ClimateChange #Sustainability #China #RenewableEnergy #NetZero

The International Auditing and Assurance Standard Board (#IAASB) has developed the International Standard on Sustainability Assurance (#ISSA) 5000 to work with sustainability reporting frameworks such as #IFRS S1 and S2. The Standard will guide auditors in enhancing the auditing process, validating their findings and improve public confidence in sustainability reporting. The complete ISSA 5000 is expected to be published in January 2025. The draft is available here: https://lnkd.in/erx5HQ_r
