𝐌𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐥𝐮𝐱 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 After organizing the Climate Tech Summit Benelux and co-hosting the Benelux Top 100 Election with Change Inc., we've come across numerous exciting (new to me) Benelux-based climate tech ventures. In this post series, I’ll be spotlighting these companies, focusing on the various climate tech sub-categories. Let’s kick things off with Climate Fintech—specifically, sustainability reporting 🔍 A hot topic nowadays as organizations need to align with new governmental regulations and become CSRD / ESG compliant. Several technology companies are smoothing or accelerating this transition by providing software solutions to help organizations comply. First, some key definitions: - The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) requires companies to report the impact of their activities on the environment and society, including assurance (audit) of reported information. - ESG is a framework or criteria to measure the sustainability and ethical impact of an investment or a company focusing on 3 fields: Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance So now the list of different Benelux companies tackling this: 1. Nothing recently gave me more positive energy ⚡ than organizing the Climate Tech Summit. Never expected we had to work with a waiting list! Over 215 founders and impact investors joined us 🎉 , affirming the need for this event in the Benelux. Climate tech founders are, in my opinion, the real heroes of our time 🦸♂️ . As an entrepreneur, I know the challenges of building a "regular" business, but mission-driven climate tech founders face even steeper obstacles: - A massive funding gap - Shifting regulations - Governments straying from their goals - Unproven FOAK technologies needing urgent support - Unrealistic investor expectations - Complex (EU) grant processes - Public misperceptions and limited understanding Together with our partners, we aimed to connect, inspire, and accelerate the Benelux ecosystem, giving these innovators a well-deserved spotlight. A huge thanks to Change Inc. for helping launch the Benelux Climate Tech100, creating extra buzz and PR! The feedback: >95% of the visitors made valuable new connections 🤝 >97% of the visitors would come again to a next edition 🤯 >90% rated the event as Very good or Excellent 👍 I am 100% sure we will continue with this initiative and turn this into a platform. Who were notably absent? Politicians and ministers. None showed up 😒 , despite invitations. These founders are creating tomorrow’s most impactful companies, and they need your support 🙏 !! Please join us next time and simply ask: “What do you need to succeed?” My 4 top takeaways from the speakers: ✔️ Joppe Schepers: look for syndication and use multiple sources of funding. ✔️ Werner Schouten: you will not be successful alone; you are part of a system. We can only succeed together. ✔️ Mathijs Bouman: human resources are hugely scarce and are blocking our economic growth. Rethink our immigration strategy! Grow the productivity. ✔️ Harm Edens: add some f*cking urgency to this situation! 🆘 Spend your money NOW on more risky investments. Otherwise there will be no more world where you can spend your millions! And raw materials will disrupt the world order soon.
