🌍 And the LDC Climate Resilience Prize at MassChallenge Switzerland goes to… EcoBean! 🌍 🏆 The Prize, awarded to the #food and #agriculture startup with the most game-changing climate #impact potential. So yes, we’re feeling pretty good right now. We’ve been showing how big an impact Spent Coffee Grounds can make when you turn them into low-carbon ingredients instead of letting them go to waste. (Hint: it’s a big one.) Marcin Koziorowski and Kacper Kossowski received the award from @Michael Gechie, CEO of Louis Dreyfus Company, who highlighted LDC's mission—a vision that EcoBean is now proud to be part of: "We bring agricultural products to where they’re needed, embracing innovation at the strategic level. We’re accelerating our sustainability and decarbonization roadmap, doing our part to mitigate climate change while continuing to meet the needs of a growing population.” But that’s not all! 🏅 We’ve also been named a Gold Winner at MassChallenge! This program was a huge door-opener for us, and we walked through it with everything we had—just like we do with each coffee ground we collect. Massive shoutout to the people who had our back: Hendrik Marcel Dik, Cara Tobin, @Georgia Scetta, Nicolas Meneses, and Zhanar Baishakova. Couldn’t have done it without you. 🙌 And big congrats to all the amazing startups who were with us in this competition: AdAstra Sustainability, @Darween, GroGuru Inc, @Solumar, Volare Solutions, Angry Camel, ANTmachines, Demetria, Envisionit Deep AI® Spectacular Labs, SolidWatts, Myriad Optics, pirenkin, Pack2Earth— and special shoutout to Noovi Ag for winning the top spot at MassChallenge! 👏 Nestlé Puratos Givaudan dsm-firmenich Omya @ Photos from LDC and MassChallenge profiles.

We turn coffee waste into sustainable chemicals
Informacje
We turn coffee waste into sustainable chemicals. EcoBean is the most technologically advanced processor of spent coffee grounds into chemicals with a low-carbon footprint. The obtained coffee oil, antioxidants, polylactide (PLA), lignin, and protein additives are then used in various industries, from pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, packaging, to feed additives. Our partnership with Warsaw University of Technology (WUT) enables us to achieve the highest level of coffee waste valorization and source the most technologically advanced chemicals available. Our mission is to, through innovative solutions, reduce the impact of both the coffee and chemical industries on our planet by transforming coffee grounds into sustainable chemicals in line with circular economy principles

🚨 Just 5% 🚨 – That’s how much of the #coffee cherry is actually utilized. This shocking stat was shared by Dario Toso from Lavazza Group during the #NextBite24 panel on Pioneering #Circular Economy. 5%... from an industry that ranks as the 5th largest food emitter globally. 🌍 As Kacper Kossowski, our Co-founder & Board Member, put it: “The coffee industry needs to fully embrace sustainability and stop viewing coffee as just a linear resource. It should be seen as a circular asset, key to decarbonization goals, while also delivering economic benefits, reducing environmental impact, and pushing us towards a sustainable future.” ☕ ♻ The truth? Coffee is an incredibly valuable resource, but we’re only scratching the surface. EcoBean is flipping the script, taking what’s left after your espresso and turning it into valuable ingredients that can fuel multiple industries. No waste behind. It’s not just about reducing the carbon footprint in coffee but also other industries. Big thanks to EIT Food - NextBite and moderator Lorraine Allen for the platform to share our solutions alongside incredible co-panelists: Magdalena Kozłowska (Co-Founder & CEO, NapiFeryn BioTech) Jakub Emanuel Malec (Sustainable Food Manager, Żabka Polska ) Dario Toso (Product Sustainability & Circular Economy Manager, Lavazza Group) Eva Nordberg Karlsson (Professor of Biotechnology, Lund University) The coffee revolution is brewing – and we’re here for it! 💪

Yes! This is real. Just yesterday, we were chosen as one of TOP12 winners of MassChallenge Switzerland, and just today, we were announced as one of the #TOP6 finalists for the Louis Dreyfus Company Climate Resilience Prize! 🌍✨ TOP 6 from a pool of 1,153 applicants 😵 , chosen for their exceptional positive #impact in driving climate resilience in agriculture and #food value chains. It took a robust #circular model and a lot of calculations to prove our impact, and we did it! And yes, it proves that a leading merchant and processor of agricultural goods affirms that EcoBean is the solution that the market needs and is making a change in the coffee and ingredients industries. A positive, long-term change. Our innovative technology of turning coffee waste into sustainable chemicals is a solution that can benefit us all! ☕ ♻ AdAstra Sustainability, Darween, GroGuru Inc, Solumar, Volare Solutions - see you on the stage!

‼ This information is more energising than any espresso ☕ 📢 We’ve been selected among the #TOP12 MassChallenge Switzerland 2024 Winners 🏆🌍💡. We’re super, super happy! This proves that our solution is not only needed but also scalable, profitable, and capable of delivering a significant positive #impact! Why is this so meaningful to us? 🤔 Because this program is co-created by market leaders like Louis Dreyfus Company, Nestlé, Givaudan, Bühler Group, Omya, Puratos, and dsm-firmenich—companies actively seeking solutions that can be implemented into their businesses. Being in the top 12 means that our circular solution of turning coffee grounds into sustainable ingredients is what they’re looking for! 🌱🔄 We’re especially proud because being recognized among so many fantastic startups is truly an achievement! It wasn’t a piece of cake—it was more like a strong cup of coffee that required hard work, dedication, and a lot of effort. ☕ After all the work we put into the program and the pre-final pitch, being selected from such a brilliant pool of impactful startups with incredible ideas for a more sustainable world makes this recognition even more rewarding. Why would a successful #VentureCapitalist switch from the steady boat of VC to the unpredictable seas of a #startup? 🌊 What convinced Maciej Majchrowicz there’s real value and scalability in coffee waste than brings impact and profit at the same time? ☕ ♻ 💲 There’s clearly something special about EcoBean Grab your Friday coffee and tune in to Jan Christoph Bohnerth’s #podcast, Rooted in Change. Great name btw, Jan! Thanks for your invitation!

Have you had your morning coffee yet? ☕ Why not enjoy one on #InternationalCoffeeDay? At EcoBean, we love coffee just as much as you do—but there’s more to that cup than meets the eye. The coffee industry ranks as the 5th largest food emitter globally 🌍💨 and often involves low wages for workers. Both of these issues need to be addressed by the industry. But from our perspective, the most alarming part is how much of coffee’s #potential is wasted! In fact, 92% of coffee’s value is lost after that cup is poured. Think about it—billions of cups of coffee are consumed every day, but only a tiny fraction of its potential is utilized. What happens to the rest? It’s discarded as waste, despite being packed with rich, beneficial compounds. Spent coffee grounds are far from useless—they’re a goldmine of untapped potential. They contain valuable lipids, polyphenols, proteins, and sugars that can be repurposed into sustainable products with real-world applications. This is exactly where EcoBean comes in 💪. With our cutting-edge technology, we ensure that nothing goes to waste, unleashing coffee’s full potential. Instead of being thrown away, we turn them into coffee oil, antioxidants, PLA, lignin, and even protein additives. ☕ ♻ Coffee is much more than a morning ritual. It’s a resource with the power to fuel industries, reduce waste, and drive innovation. So enjoy your cup of coffee, and we’ll take care of what’s left behind.

To create #innovative technology 🔬 with a positive environmental impact, 🌏 you need the smartest and most passionate #people driving that vision forward. And guess what? We’ve got them on board! They conjure wonders from coffee waste. 🧙♂️ ☕ ♻ We are thrilled to share that a renowned 📑 Journal of Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology published by Oxford University Press has just released an article by our R&D Manager, Łukasz Wysocki, with incredible contributions from our amazing team: Patrycja Adamczuk, Paula Bardadyn, Anna Gabor, Karolina Jelonek, Monika Kudelska, Maksymilian Kukuć, Adrianna Maria Piasek, Monika Słomka and Zoja Trojan. In the article, we present a groundbreaking biotechnological process for producing lactic acid from spent coffee grounds (SCG). This process optimizes every step—from hydrolysis to fermentation—delivering a sustainable, cost-efficient solution without the need for expensive additives proving that #circularity and #profit go hand in hand. Even better, this technology is at the core of EcoBean’s mission, part of a complete process that transforms #SCG into five valuable fractions: coffee oil, antioxidants, lactic acid (polymerized into PLA), lignin, and protein additives. ☕ ♻ This is what EcoBean stands for: innovation that creates impact and drives profit. Our MassChallenge Switzerland adventure is still brewing strong, and we’re squeezing every drop of value out of it like the perfect espresso shot! ☕ ♻ In a nutshell: MassChallenge Switzerland is an accelerator that supports #innovators tackling the world’s biggest challenges. 💪 Recently, we were back in Lausanne for the 2nd bootcamp, where we were sharpening our skills – soaking up insights from top mentors and learning from alumni experience like Guy Maurice and Remy Buser. The second part? It was all about collaboration talks with Nestlé, Givaudan, Bühler Group, dsm-firmenich, Louis Dreyfus Company, and Puratos. Only a select few startups from the entire cohort were invited to these discussions. 🌍♻️ These market giants understand the need for sustainable, #circular solutions. We had the chance to visit their labs, dive deep into their business needs, and figure out how #EcoBean can make a difference. And you know what? We think we might just fit in their ecosystem... Not because we love swimming with the big sharks, but because we might be z missing puzzle. 😉 The journey isn’t over yet! We’ve got a few intense weeks ahead to prove to the final jury that EcoBean is more than an idea – it’s a business-focused, #impact-driven, circular solution that’s perfect for companies aiming to meet sustainability goals and boost #profits. Let’s do this! 🌿👊 Marcin Koziorowski, Kacper Kossowski, Maciej Majchrowicz
