📊📋The President of the Energy Regulatory Office Urząd Regulacji Energetyki (URE) showed the results of a survey on the functioning of the capacity market in Poland.   📈The vast majority of participants in the Polish energy market are in favor of maintaining the functioning of the capacity market at least until 2040. At the same time, according to respondents, the mechanism should support low-emission technologies and system flexibility to a greater extent in the coming years.   🔹The main effects of the capacity market functioning were indicated by the study participants as investments in new generation sources with a total capacity of approximately 11 GW; 🔹According to the majority of respondents (90%), the introduction of the capacity market created incentives to invest in new generating capacity and modernization of existing energy sources; 🔹63 percent all respondents indicated that the introduction of the capacity market resulted in a reduction in the cost of obtaining capital for investments. ❓You will find three questions and answers from the survey above.   The document presents only the opinions of market participants who took part in the study. 🔔Energy storage with financial support from the European Commission! The EC has approved a Polish aid program worth 💰EUR 1.2 billion💰 to support investing in electricity storage to support the transition to a net-zero economy net emissions.    ☘️The scheme aims at reducing the reliance of the Polish electricity system on fossil fuels and at facilitating the smooth integration of variable renewable energy sources in the national electricity system, by supporting the construction of electricity storage facilities. The scheme will support only newly installed storage facilities with a capacity of at least 4 MWh. The supported facilities will be connected to the distribution or transmission networks at all voltage levels.   The Commission concluded that the Polish program is necessary, appropriate and proportionate to its purpose accelerating the ecological transformation. 🇪🇸The Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge of Spain, in collaboration with the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE), has recently announced the list of successful applicants for subsidies for stand-alone storage projects, specifically those that are directly connected to the transmission grid. 💰This is the inaugural call for grants for pioneering standalone electricity and thermal storage projects within the scope of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, financed by the European Union's Next Generation EU initiative. ❗The preliminary list of 46 projects have been granted a total of 💲167.8 million euros. 📎Read more: https://lnkd.in/ggyVPHvb  

📕💥Over 40 civil society organisations call on EU leaders to secure funding for the Just Transition in the next EU budget. Currently, 92 regions across Europe are using the ▶️Just Transition Fund◀️ to mitigate the impacts of the closure of high-carbon industries in regions throughout the EU.   💡The timing of this statement is particularly significant given the upcoming mid-term review of the EU’s cohesion policy, the review of the Just Transition Fund, and the European Commission’s proposal for the new Multiannual Financial Framework, which will be followed by negotiations with other EU institutions.   💡With this statement, Europe’s leading civil society organisations underline the importance of keeping the Just Transition Fund as a dedicated financial instrument under the cohesion policy. 📕🔖“The future of European competitiveness” the report by Mario Draghi, former President of the European Central Bank, provides an in-depth analysis and proposals for how the European Union should respond to the challenges ahead. 🎯The key objectives are to reduce energy costs for the end user and, at the same time, accelerate decarbonisation. All available technologies and solutions (e.g. renewables, nuclear, hydrogen, batteries, demand response, infrastructure roll-out and energy efficiency and CCUS technologies) must be leveraged by adopting a technology-neutral approach and by developing an overall cost-efficient system. 🎯As the Mario Draghi’s report points out, the European Union must be prepared to deal with an energy system that may be less flexible, require huge investments to avoid bottlenecks and may experience higher and unstable prices in the future. ▶️Link to report: https://lnkd.in/eAk84kkG

🔔Extremadura, a landlocked autonomous community of Spain located in the central-western part of the Iberian Peninsula, will receive a grant of 💲1.5 million euros from the European Research Council (ERC), a scientific excellence program of the European Commission, for pioneering research on the regulatory regime of energy storage, specifically batteries.   💡📚This achievement has been made possible thanks to the research proposal submitted by the Hydrogen Department of the CIIAE - Iberian Centre for Research in Energy Storage and the European Projects Office of the Extremadura Science and Technology System, a public instrument managed by FUNDECYT-PCTEX and the University of Extremadura. 📎Read more: https://lnkd.in/d-8YrR6t

☘️💡☘️The Ministry of Climate and Environment (Ministerstwo Klimatu i Środowiska) presented a proposal to update the national plan in the field of Energy and Climate by 2030 (KPEiK). 🎯Nearly 70 representatives of ecological organizations and the energy sector, as well as representatives of local governments, entrepreneurs and trade unions, participate in the discussion on the energy transformation in Poland.   Main assumption presented in the document proposal: the share of renewable energy sources is up to 📈58.4% in 2040. 🎯Photovoltaics - 29 GW by 2030 and 46,2 GW by 2040 🎯Onshore wind - 19 GW by 2030 and 25,8 GW by 2040 🎯Offshore wind – 5,9 GW by 2030 and 17,9 GW by 2040   ☑️According to the Ministry, in 2030, thanks to the implementation of the KPEiK, in Poland will be cheaper, healthier, and our economy will be stronger. 💡📑According to the report "Road map for the heat storage market in Poland" published by the Renewable Energy Institute (Institute for Renewable Energy / Instytut Energetyki Odnawialnej) in cooperation with the Polish Chamber of Energy Storage (Stowarzyszenie Polska Izba Magazynowania Energii i Elektromobilności PIME), the estimated value of investments in heat storage in the heating sector by 2030 is expected to amount to PLN 30 billion.   🔷The report indicates a surplus of renewable energy generation outside the heating season (April-September), which constitutes a growing potential for heat storage. According to IEO, the heat storage potential in the heating sector is 57.4 GWh per day, and after taking into account technical limitations and land availability - 6,651 GWh per year. Companies with a capacity of 10-50 MW have the greatest potential, of which there are 178 in Poland.   🔷Heat storage can contribute to achieving an efficient energy system and the use of surplus energy from renewable energy sources without excessive burden on energy networks.   📊📎More data in the report: https://lnkd.in/dMbCDAbv

📕📊According to the latest International Energy Agency (IEA) report over the 2024-2025 forecast period of this report, global electricity consumption is expected to increase. 📈The share of renewables in global electricity supply rose to 30% in 2023 and is projected to climb further to 35% in 2025.   🔖Despite the sharp rise in electricity use, solar PV alone is expected to meet roughly half of the growth in global electricity demand to 2025. Together with wind power generation, it will make up almost 75% of the increase. 🔖Global electricity generation from solar PV and wind is expected to surpass that from hydropower in 2024. This follows a massive 33% year-on-year increase in global solar PV generation and sustained growth in wind generation of 10%. The global energy transition is set to achieve another significant milestone by 2025, with total renewable generation poised to overtake coal-fired electricity output.    📎Read full IEA’s report: https://lnkd.in/dZPxEiu3
