In spring 2024 with ai expertise from SoilMate we added ai identification and mapping of surface stones to StoneSight, a dedicated stone management system for agriculture. Today, we continue to grow StoneSight with multiple input channels from drones to human waypoint marking from machinery passes. Today, I was targeting our StoneSight "dead head" map layer. This layer consists of larger stones that protrude above the ground but are mostly subsurface. (Think Titanic and iceberg and then stone vs farm machinery event). To build our dead head dataset, we used waypoint marking contributed by multiple machinery operators over at least three farming seasons. In a final pass we adjusted our coordinates to RTK. The result is an RTK accurate dead head map across 3.5 thousand acres. Without this kind of mapping it is all but impossible to see these stones even when you are within just a few meters. We are now at a new level of efficiency in stone management. Previously, we only "dabbled" at this fall task because locating these stones was so time consuming. This changes the dead head game!
