#oWapieniuWiemyWszystko #rekarbonizacja #EuLA #SPW
🔽 In our latest report with South Pole, one of the key areas of focus is to quantify recarbonation in selected applications. 🏭 Today’s focus is on iron and steel lime application. Lime is used in iron and steel production to remove impurities, but did you know it can also absorb CO₂ after production? 🌍This process, known as recarbonation, turns lime into calcium carbonate. Slags contain alkaline materials, such as lime that absorbs CO2 from the atmosphere, forming CaCO3 (calcium carbonate). 🔄 Studies for those applications show that up to 28% of the CO₂ emissions from lime process emissions can be permanently reabsorbed in the first year. Through enhanced recarbonation, this potential could increase to 56%! 🎓 Figure below compares the CO2 emission from lime production in the iron and steel industry, with the with the current minimum and maximum recarbonation levels, as well as the potential range achievable through enhanced recarbonation efforts.
