If you opt in to the Gemini app, it will replace your Google Assistant as the primary assistant on the phone. Some Google Assistant voice features aren't available through the Gemini app yet — including controlling media and routines. You can switch back to Google Assistant in settings.

It is a useful app that works quite smoothly. However, one major issue needs to be fixed soon. It's the change (compression / shift / disorganisation, etc.) in the layout of texts, when search results are copied from this app and pasted in a different app or writing source. To fix this, the original layout of texts (neat, properly spaced, titled, subtitled, asterisked, etc.) in search results should be kept, or maintained, after texts get pasted outside this app.

I was looking forward to a Gemini app but this is absolutely useless as an app that's supposed to replace Google Assistant. It can't do routines, reminders, play music on anything but their own stupid YT Music. Embarrassing! Edit: Added an extra star as the update has brought back reminders. But can you believe it won't automatically start navigating to a destination? It actually asks you where you are! Thankfully there's still the lock screen Assistant shortcut to do these basic things!

Considering this is meant to be at the cutting edge of Google's achievements it's a bit underwhelming. In a direct comparison to ChatGPT, Gemini is only slightly worse as a model, although you do notice it. However, this app aims to offer a complete personal assistant, which I feel like it does not manage. Whilst it can now perform some basic tasks like setting a reminder, it still feels impotent to do half the things I ask, meaning it's still more efficient to just do everything manually.
