JUST DO IT. That was the order when John Donahoe was hired as the CEO of Nike. And he did it. Look, it's not John Donahoe's fault that Nike hired someone with a track record of short term gains via digital transformation. He did exactly what he was brought in to do, which unfortunately was not what the 𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝 needed. While he overlooked Nike’s core identity, it came at the expense of its authentic 𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝 culture, leading to a drop in market share and diminished customer loyalty. This serves as a reminder that strong leadership requires not just operational innovation but also a deep commitment to the 𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝's heritage and connection with its audience. Nike's new CEO, Elliott Hill, is an industry veteran who is going to have to right the ship and instill the innovation, trust and leadership that comes with being a good brand steward.
