If still the disagreement persists, do not hesitate to involve a third party neutral unbiased colleague who can listen to both sides before making any decision. So focus should be on resolving the conflict rather than escalating at a higher level. Also make sure that these incidents do not happen in future by clearly defining the rules for giving credits and document it.
