Adaptability is one of the most crucial traits I look for when recruiting in biotech and pharma. The industry shifts quickly and frequently; hence, candidates must stay current with advances. For example, when hiring for a gene therapy startup, I prioritize professionals experienced in CRISPR and familiar with evolving regulations. Networking at industry-specific events like the BIO International Convention and utilizing platforms like BioSpace are invaluable resources. Also, emphasizing data on emerging skills can attract top talent; a LinkedIn report noted a 28% increase in demand for biotech professionals proficient in AI. Staying ahead with such insights is key to successful recruitment.

Whether to include coursework on your resume depends on: Job requirements. Relevance to the role. Career stage. Resume length. Tips for including coursework: Quantify achievements. Highlight relevant skills. Use a functional resume. Consider your individual circumstances and the specific job you're applying for.

I say it a lot in my answers to these questions but here it is again: Relevance. Is the coursework you want to include relevant to the role in question? If you're unsure you can do a list of reasons why you think it's relevant - and a list of reasons why you think it may not be relevant. Much like a pros and cons list this will often make things far clearer. The second level to this is this: Can you describe the outcomes from the coursework? Were they positive? Were they relevant to your career? Are they quantifiable? If you can say yes to most (preferably all) of those questions then it's a good idea to include it. If not, then you may want to leave it out. Good luck out there!

If you are early in your career (0-2 years) then I think it's appropriate to add coursework, especially if you are in a field where having a very specific type of degree matters (engineers, doctors, lawyers, etc.). Keep it short and clean on your resume, no one needs to know the course number, simply list the names of the courses. Don't include the entry level 101 courses either, include the highest level course you've taken, and don't feel the need to add every class you've ever taken. Once you've got a few years of relevant experience in your industry, I would remove the coursework from your resume. At this point in your career, people will be looking at what hands on work you've done, not necessarily what you did in college 5 years ago

To decide whether to include coursework on your resume, consider the job you're applying for. If the coursework is directly related to the role or demonstrates valuable skills not covered in your experience, it's worth including. However, if you have significant professional experience or the coursework doesn’t add new insights, it's better to leave it out to keep your resume concise and focused.
