Job Description: We are looking for a diligent and detail-oriented Laboratory Assistant to support our Metabolic Engineering Group. This entry-level position is ideal for someone passionate about contributing to sustainable research initiatives. The successful candidate will assist in various laboratory activities, ensuring smooth and efficient operations. Key Duties and Responsibilities ·      Assist in preparing and maintaining microbial cultures and conducting routine laboratory tasks. ·      Support the team in performing basic molecular biology techniques and data collection. ·      Help maintain an organized and clean laboratory space, including managing supplies and equipment. ·      Accurately record experimental procedures and results under team supervision. ·      Collaborate with team members to provide general laboratory support and assistance. ·      Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines within the laboratory environment. ·      Assist in preparing buffers, media, and other laboratory reagents. Role Requirements ·      Associate's degree in Biology, Biotechnology, or a related field, or equivalent experience. ·      Basic understanding of laboratory practices and scientific principles. ·      Strong organizational and communication skills. ·      Ability to follow instructions carefully and maintain attention to detail. ·      Interest in learning more about metabolic engineering and synthetic biology. Desirable Experience: ·      Experience in laboratory settings, such as through coursework or previous employment. ·      Familiarity with handling laboratory equipment and safety protocols. This year CarboCode investigated the impact of synthetic human GM3 and GD3 gangliosides on the infant gut microbiome. The results indicate that the change of the GM3/GD3 ratio during lactation could support the different waves of microbial colonisation of the infant gut. GD3 and GM3 may play a key role in the establishment of a “healthy” microbiota (JPGN reports, 2024, vol 5, pp S1305-1306). We continue to decipher the health benefits of these breastmilk compounds, available for the first time at scale! More to come soon...
