🌟 What an incredible start to the week! COREangels Lisbon was proud to be part of two major events that showcased the innovation and entrepreneurial spirit driving Lisbon's startup ecosystem. Even more to see one of our invested companies being recognised! Isabel Faria represented COREangels Lisbon at the Demo Day for the 2nd edition of Clean Future by Unicorn Factory Lisboa. 🚀 This acceleration program is dedicated to supporting startups with tech solutions focused on building sustainable cities—key areas like construction, mobility, and retail. Later in the day, we had the honor of participating in the Entrepreneurship Awards at Cineteatro Capitólio, where Isabel, together with other VCs and category partner Concentrix, served as a jury member for the Most Promising Startup category. 🎉 It was thrilling to see Testwaves, a startup from our portfolio, named one of the top 10 most promising startups! What a busy week! Adding to Rui Falcao at the European Angel Investment Summit in Brussels, we had a group from COREangels and COREangels Lisbon in Dubai for the GITEX GLOBAL Largest Tech & Startup Show in the World. It was a busy but great experience that permitted to have direct contact with close to 100 startups from different areas, provide them feedback and eventually bring some to Lisbon in the future. Created the opportunity also to develop contact with different investors and actors in the local and international entrepreneurship space, that permits to continuously grow our network. Entrepreneurship promotion and fiscal policy | Rui Falcão article at Eco its a pleasure to share Rui Falcao recent article for Eco on fiscal policy as a way to promote investment in startups, entrepreneurship, and innovation. 🌱 Rui Falcao, President of COREangels, leader of COREangels Lisbon and Angel Investor of the year by INVESTORS PORTUGAL, explored how fiscal policy can act as a catalyst for entrepreneurship and economic growth in Portugal. 1️⃣ The Importance of Entrepreneurship in Economic Growth Entrepreneurship is at the heart of economic development and innovation. In Portugal, fostering a strong culture of entrepreneurship is crucial for creating new businesses, generating jobs, and building competitive solutions. When startups thrive, they bring fresh ideas, cutting-edge technologies, and new opportunities and prosperity. 🚀 To increase this potential, it’s essential to have a supportive environment that encourages investment, particularly in the early stages when startups face the most significant challenges and exist a natural higher risk. 2️⃣ The Vital Role of Business Angels Business angels play a pivotal role in funding early-stage startups, which often struggle to secure traditional financing. Their contribution goes beyond just capital, typically providing invaluable mentorship, expertise, and networks, important to scale a business. For the Portuguese entrepreneurial ecosystem to flourish, attracting more experienced angel investors is key because use to contribute to startups development and sucess. 3️⃣ Challenges in the Fiscal Policy Landscape Despite the recognised importance of business angels, current fiscal policies in Portugal are not as supportive as they could be. Rui Falcão points out several barriers that discourage investment: Complex taxation procedures and high taxes create a challenging environment for both domestic and international investors. Lack of specific incentives for angel investors, making it less attractive to put capital into Portuguese startups. These obstacles make it harder for startups to secure the investment they need to grow and innovate. As a result, Portugal risks falling behind in the race to build a vibrant startup ecosystem that can compete on a global scale.
