In our latest article we describe how the role of thermal energy assets in #localelectricitymarkets (LEM) can be evaluated using Singularity Map, Grid Singularity LEM simulation tool, enhanced with the support of Hypergryd Project EU to include digital twins of #heatpump and district heating. It also serves as further evidence how local #flexibility can be optimised by engaging in peer-to-peer (#P2P) energy trading. From Prosumers and Energy Communities to Positive Energy Districts 🔗 In our latest article, we investigate the intertwined legal concepts of energy communities, energy sharing, and PEDs function to conclude that PEDs can only be achieved pursuant to a bottom-up energy market design, with interconnected energy communities trading peer-to-peer (p2p), with effective integration with flexibility markets. "External financial support is generally only required for energy communities until two regulatory-related conditions are met. One is that the red tape surrounding the establishment and operation of energy communities is reduced to the level of accepting terms for a digital app, with local service providers offering turnkey solutions for renewable energy installations and asset management. The second is that the scope of energy community trading is extended to peer-to-peer trading within and among communities, which is permitted by the related EU directives but not yet by the member state implementation." - Dr Ana Trbovich, cofounder of Grid Singularity and the Energy Web Foundation, further elaborating on the benefits of #P2P #energycommunities as validated by the study published by German Energy Agency (dena).
