Happy to be part of summer school B.SuRe; as a lecturer. 👨🏫 Main aim was to expose students to new ideas 💡 that will make difference in the engineering field in upcoming future such as virtual reality; internet of things technology; digital twins ; artificial intelligence; sensors etc .. #ai #artificialintelligence #iot #summerschool #pavia #msca #networking #engineering ISISE - Institute for Sustainability and Innovation in Structural Engineering Università di Pavia DECivil - Departamento de Engenharia Civil - Universidade do Minho
Last week, from September 23 to 27, I had the great opportunity to attend the Building Sustainable Reuse (B.SuRe) Summer School at the Università di Pavia in Italy, a Multidisciplinary and Multiscale Approach for Sustainable Cities and Communities from the EC2U Alliance. Besides the unique and enriching opportunity to learn very relevant theoretical and practical concepts regarding rehabilitation and Cultural Heritage with Professor Dr. Marco Morandotti, Professor Dr. Elisabetta Doria, and Professor Dr. Mayank Mishra, I had the pleasing opportunity to meet great colleagues from all over the world, who have been developing their studies and research in different fields of knowledge. We also had the opportunity to visit Palazzo Vistarino and build our work based on it. I truly believe that this is why events like this happen: to acquire innovative concepts and relevant knowledge, and, more importantly, to get to know increasable people that not only expand our professional and research network, but also make some great new friends… I would like to thank and congratulate the professors involved in the organization and the Università di Pavia for being so welcoming and for the great success of this 3rd edition of the Summer School. I also would like to thank ISISE - Institute for Sustainability and Innovation in Structural Engineering for the opportunity, the Universidade de Coimbra and EC2U Alliance for this incredible opportunity. Finally, but not least, I would like to thank my host institutions, Departamento de Engenharia Civil da Universidade de Coimbra, SerQ- Centro de Inovação e Competências da Floresta and ISISE - Institute for Sustainability and Innovation in Structural Engineering.

The Faculty of Civil Engineering, Silesian University of Technology had the honour of hosting Prof. Paulo B. Lourenco from Universidade do Minho, for two enriching days of open meetings and lectures on October 21 and 22, 2024. During his visit to the Silesian University of Technology, Prof. Paulo B. Lourenco delivered two highly engaging lectures, each offering profound insights into the fields of heritage conservation and innovative masonry research. Both lectures not only shed light on the technical aspects of conservation and sustainability but also inspired the audience by demonstrating how interdisciplinary research can drive progress in preserving our heritage for the future. Prof. Paulo B. Lourenco's insights during his visit emphasized the importance of building a strong, collaborative research team as the foundation for academic excellence. Drawing from his own extensive experience leading research groups and coordinating numerous international projects (also ERC Grant), he highlighted how teamwork not only amplifies research power but also fosters professional growth, driving innovations in the field of civil engineering. Prof. Paulo B. Lourenco's leadership as president of ICOMOS ISCARSAH and his groundbreaking work with UNESCO World Heritage monuments further underline his dedication to merging research with practical, real-world impact. We greatly values Professor Paulo B. Lourenco’s visit, particularly his valuable insights on team-building and research excellence, which will undoubtedly inspire our ongoing and future works. This visit provided an invaluable opportunity for our academic community to engage with one of the foremost experts in the field of heritage preservation and structural engineering, enriching our faculty with new perspectives and insights.
