    Helping folks get outside

“Once you spend a night in a rooftop tent, you'll never want to sleep on the ground again." I've been to several Off-road Salons and Overland Expos this year, and I keep hearing some variation of this phrase over and over. I know my sample set is a little biased, because people who attend overland events don't mind driving around with a tent on their car. But rooftop tents haven't been around that long and I'm certain most of these folks were ground tent campers before. Out of curiosity, I ran a reddit poll in the rooftop tent community asking if they would sleep on ground after sleeping in a rooftop tent and 71% said they wouldn't go back to the ground. We only had 105 responses so my stats friends would tell me it's not significant, but directionally, I think it tells us that rooftop tents are playing a role in the evolution of traditional camping. Beyond the comforts of a better sleep, James Baroud’s rooftop tents allow people who enjoy camping to leave most of their camp essentials in the tent so they're always ready to go. Add in the ease of setup and take down, and it makes sense that it's a more convenient experience. We see this shift in our customers as well. 10 years ago, almost all of our tents were mounted on vehicles modified for off-roading. Today, most tents go on family SUVs and even minivans. Our engineering team is also quickly designing new products with families in mind. This year, we launched: 📥Storage boxes to help with organization and can also be flipped over to be used as a spill proof table. 🪑A set of tent chairs that help with posture and provide more comfort. 🎒An improved shoe bag that comes with a dog leash and padded ground mat. 🐾We're currently testing a doggy ramp to make it easier for our furry friends to join us in the tent. 🏕️And in 2025 we aim to change the game for family camping. 😉 The future is exciting, and we can't wait to see everyone get out there. Let's go! #camping #overlanding #rooftoptent #outdoorindustry

Chase the rare and fantastic. Did you know? After this year’s 8 April eclipse, the next time the path of a total eclipse crossing the U.S. from coast to coast is 22 years from now on 12 August 2045! —— In the Path of Totality | August 2017 In 2017, I embarked on an epic adventure with Amelia Troyer & Elena Troyer chasing the total solar eclipse. Equipped with the Jeep, a map, and a camera, we set off for the wilds of Eastern Oregon. Setting up camp offgrid (thanks Bureau of Land Management), we had the best of all views and a memory of a lifetime. —— The fact that solar eclipses happen at all is a fantastic numerical coincidence: as it turns out, the sun is ~400 times larger than the moon AND it’s 400 times more distant from Earth…the precise numbers needed for an eclipse. How often does an eclipses happen? Of all the types, earth averages 2.38 eclipses per year. The time between two total solar eclipses averages 375 years. A total eclipses’ true rarity comes not from how often one takes place, but from the fact that each one is only visible from a tiny fraction of Earth's surface (less than 1%). For example, the path of the 8 April 2024 total eclipse is 9,200 mi long, with an average width of 116 mi. That only covers 0.52% of Earth’s surface!
