GWB2025 @ NOVA FCT On February 11, the NOVA FCT community gathered once again to participate in the Global Women’s Breakfast (#GWB2025), this year at the Chemistry Department, hosted as previously by Prof. Ana Aguiar-Ricardo. The GWB is an IUPAC international event that celebrates and promotes diversity, equality and inclusion in science. This year the theme was "Accelerating Equity in Science" and we proposed "Peace" as the central element of the Portuguese celebrations. After a lively gathering of over 40 people enjoying coffee/tea with cookies, Prof. Isabel Esteves (Chemistry Department), took us on a visual journey through five years of GWB flag-images, offering insights into her creative process and the stories behind each image.

Membros do LAQV da NOVA FCT, publicam artigo no JACS sobre novas associações supramoleculares fotossensíveis que exibem catálise supramolecular. Numa publicação recente no Journal of the American Chemical Society, Miriam Colaço e Nuno Basílio, membros do Laboratório Associado para a Química Verde (LAQV-REQUIMTE), divulgaram a descoberta de novas associações supramoleculares entre duas classes de moléculas capazes de se reconhecer e ligar de forma altamente eficiente e controlada mediante exposição à luz ultravioleta e visível. A publicação intitula-se “Diazocines as Guests of Cucurbituril Macrocycles: Light-Responsive Binding and Supramolecular Catalysis of Thermal Isomerization” e pode ser consultada aqui https://lnkd.in/dv59DpdY. A ex-aluna do Mestrado em Ciências Gastronómicas do Departamento de Química, NOVA FCT, Patrícia Gabriel, criou uma instalação "multissensorial" para os vinhos do Fundão, intitulada “Repetir o Gesto, Repetir, Nunca Igual”, no edifício da Moagem, no Fundão, Beira Interior. Conhecer a essência do vinho desde a Cova da Beira até o Douro é o objetivo da exposição. É possível cheirar e provar os vinhos de duas castas regionais e percecionar as diferenças aromáticas em função da sua localização. A instalação foi divulgada no programa Criar.pt da RTP. 9º Portuguese Young Chemists Meeting (PYCHEM). Mantendo a tradição do maior encontro de jovens químicos em Portugal, o Grupo de Químicos Jovens Portugueses (GQJ) da Sociedade Portuguesa de Química (SPQ) tem o prazer de apresentar o "9º Portuguese Young Chemists Meeting (PYCHEM)". Esta edição terá lugar em Faro, na Universidade do Algarve, de 28 a 30 de abril de 2025. Este evento reúne químicos de diferentes nacionalidades e especialistas reconhecidos em diferentes subáreas, constituindo uma excelente oportunidade para a partilha de ideias e estabelecimento de novas colaborações. Para além das habituais sessões plenárias, comunicações orais, comunicações flash e posters, esta edição contará com uma mesa redonda e prémios para destacar as melhores apresentações. Com uma comissão científica de prestígio e diversos oradores de renome já confirmados, a próxima edição do maior encontro de químicos jovens do país, promete ser um verdadeiro sucesso científico!
