📢The recently published draft by the World Health Organization (WHO) provides a global framework for the implementation of continuous manufacturing in the pharmaceutical industry, targeting both manufacturers and regulatory bodies. Key Points: ▪️Continuous manufacturing is defined and may improve efficiency and product quality when compared to traditional batch processing. ▪️Regulatory adaptations in GMP are needed, including real-time analytics and dynamic validation. ▪️Quality Risk Management (QRM) and Process Analytical Technology (PAT) to control risks and to monitor critical quality attributes. ▪️Automation, digitalization, and real-time monitoring are crucial for maintaining stable production. ▪️Personnel training and knowledge sharing between industry and regulators are emphasized. Comparison with ICH Q13 Guideline: ICH Q13 (2022): Technical details, targeted at countries with advanced regulatory systems and technology. 📢 According to Article 40(3) of Decree-Law No 29/2024 of April 5th, INFARMED, I.P. has proposed a favourable decision regarding the waiver of the Portuguese language requirement for the graphic interfaces of medical devices intended for professional use. This proposal is based on several key factors listed below: ▪️The intended users of the devices must be healthcare professionals. ▪️English is the proposed alternative language. ▪️Instructions for use must be provided in Portuguese, including detailed descriptions and translations of graphic interface information. ▪️There should be no evidence of safety issues (either for patients or users) arising from the absence of the Graphic User Interface in the official language of the user’s country. ▪️Existing precedents in European Union. ▪️Comments from professional bodies and associations have been taken into account.
