Microalgae producers since 1997

Sobre nós

Founded in the Algarve, Portugal, in 1997, Necton is one of Europe’s oldest and largest producers of microalgae. With over two decades of expertise, we have built deep scientific, technological, and business knowledge across multiple sectors, including aquaculture, cosmetics, food, nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and bioenergy. In 2023, the strategic acquisition of Allmicroalgae significantly expanded our production capacity, allowing us to integrate diverse cultivation technologies, including open raceway ponds, closed tubular photobioreactors, and industrial fermenters for heterotrophic cultivation. This enables us to cultivate freshwater, marine, and hypersaline microalgae from a wide range of genera. Our highly specialized team has hands-on experience with around 30 different microalgae species, such as Nannochloropsis, Tisochrysis, Chlorella, and Spirulina, using tailor-made cultivation techniques to meet specific client and project needs. Our dedication to R&D and continuous innovation is reflected in our involvement in over 30 national and European-funded projects. Through strong collaborations with universities, research centers, and industry partners, we remain at the forefront of Microalgae Biotechnology in Europe. Beyond innovation, our commitment to customer success sets us apart. Our dedicated sales team offers expert guidance, ensuring each client receives the most suitable microalgae solutions. From technical support to flexible supply options, we prioritize exceptional service, long-term partnerships, and exceeding expectations.

O documentário está disponível na RTP Play ou no seguinte link: https://lnkd.in/dk5S73RV EN: On March 10th, the documentary “O Mar do Nosso Futuro” premiered on RTP.

  • 🎉 This month Necton Seminars, chaired by Patricia Diogo, celebrated 4 years and 100 seminars. We are very proud of this long-lasting initiative where once a week our partners and network share their research and expertise in a casual environment, where valuable brainstorm flourishes. Thank you for the enthusiastic participation in this event throughout the years! To celebrate the anniversary of Necton Seminars, this year we had an interactive Quizz where all participants (including Necton team) learned more about the Necton group and the world of traditional sea salt and microalgae production. It was a fun moment and the two winners were from Necton, the first prize was for Inês Beatriz Maia and the second prize for Alexandre Rodrigues. Since it was a great success, next year we will have a Quizz focused on our partners activities related to microalgae! A special thank you to Patricia Diogo, Elizabete Guerreiro Gonçalves and Celine Palminha, for making this possible! 👏🎉

✨ Grateful for These Two Past Months in Athens! ✨ As part of the AlgaeNET4AV project, I had the privilege of working with the amazing Enzyme Technology Group of the Agricultural University of Athens, led by Prof. Nikolaos Labrou, and under the expert guidance of the PhD student Panagiota Pantiora. During this time, I tested the potential of biomass derived from various microalgae strains, enhanced through random mutagenesis, to exhibit improved bioactivities for aquafeed and cosmetics applications. Along the way, I had the opportunity to master new lab techniques, broaden my scientific knowledge, and contribute to innovative research. But beyond the science, these two months were about learning, sharing, and building connections! I am incredibly grateful for the warm support, collaboration, and friendships that made my time in Athens truly unforgettable. Thank you PhytoBloom - Microalgae by Necton for this opportunity and to everyone who contributed to this experience. I’m already looking forward to meeting you again soon. 🌍🔬🌿 #AlgaeNet4AV #ScienceCollaboration #Microalgae #EnzymeTechnology #Networking

  • Under the scope of the AlgaeNET4AV Microalgae project and due to the project’s objective of secondments, two of our Innovation Technicians travelled to Greece, to learn new skills! ✈️   Inês Costa spent two months at Centre for Research & Technology Hellas (CERTH), in Thessaloniki, establishing a protocol for analysing microalgae samples via Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS), evaluating antiviral compounds like polyphenols and lectins. She also evaluated the biostimulant properties of microalgae fractions, derived from a biorefinery process, on the growth of romaine lettuce in a hydroponic system.   Catarina Anjos spent two months at the Enzyme Technology Group of Agricultural University of Athens, where she tested the antioxidant and antimicrobial activity of microalgae produced at Necton against Escherichia coli, Lactobacillus brevis and Lactobacillus rhamnosus. We look forward to continuing this project and this knowledge exchange!
