🎉 ESA Space Solutions Portugal celebrated its 10th anniversary this year at the Coimbra Invest Summit! 🚀 For a decade, this programme has driven the development of the space sector in Portugal, consolidating the Centro region as an epicentre of innovation and entrepreneurship. 🌍 This was the topic discussed by Miguel Fonseca, Município de Coimbra, Sophie Patricio, Comissão de Coordenação e Desenvolvimento Regional do Centro, I. Topographic surveying is a fundamental technique in the field of Topography and Civil Engineering. The purpose is to combine georeferenced coordinate information, providing a three-dimensional view of the area under study. ⛰ From here we can create plans that represent not only the precise location of features, but also variations in terrain elevation (topography). It provides a detailed view of the terrain and is essential in Civil Engineering projects where topography plays a fundamental role. In the image shown, you can see a Topographic Survey at a scale of 1:500, where the partial collapse of a Gabion Wall is represented in a CAD environment.

The characterization of hydraulic passages (HPs) is obtained using classic surveying methods, drone, laser scanning or a combination of these methods, and from the existing support network. The dimensions of the inlets and outlets are obtained using the trigonometric method. The picture shows a drawing of the HP in the AutoCAD Civil 3D environment.

💟 We love defining topographical polygonals in the field 💟 Defining the fundamental points of polygonals in the field is the most fundamental aspect of all surveying/geodesy work. It is from these that we support our surveys, and it is with them that, at a later stage, we will all ‘communicate’ based on the same language: designers, builders, inspectors, among others. Our polygonals are divided into planimetry and altimetry components. The planimetric component is calculated using GNSS equipment and differential post-processing (using base stations of RENEP, SERVIR, SMARTNET). The altimetric part can be calculated using GNSS equipment or geometric levels. Fun fact: Did you know that there are already RENEP stations where the altimetric component has been calculated using levelling? 🤔
