When someone says to me "I need my team to be more innovative", you'll hear me respond with a simple, "curiosity & courage". Why? Curiosity fuels innovation by encouraging us to ask the right questions, while courage gives us the strength to act on the answers, even when the path forward is uncertain. The first business learning session of my Workbreaker program is called "Curiosity & Courage". The ultimate break in your routine is traveling. This is why I designed (and love) the combination of travel, work, and learning of Workbreaker. Experiential learning—where we engage actively and directly with new experiences—can be far more effective for retaining information than traditional methods like reading guidebooks or articles. When we travel to a foreign country, we're exposed to new perspectives and ways of thinking. Even experiencing something familiar in a new way changes the way you think. Another one of our favorite feedback quotes from the Workbreaker program. We talk so much about wanting to break down siloes at work, but it's easier said than done. We were able to achieve this with one team and the work continued well after the program was finished. When we travel, we want to feel like a "local". Not just going to restaurants or a tourist spot. Experiencing something familiar in a new way made the business learning and team bonding stick much more.

Two guiding principles of Workbreaker are Experiential Learning and Peer Learning. Experiential Learning: engaging, interactive activities offer the chance to practice new behaviors and learn by doing. Peer Learning: Workshop with others to create moments for mutual support in discussing shared business challenges and opportunities.

Why is Workbreaker in Portugal? Think about how in college, a study abroad experience changes people. Why can't we have this later in our career? Being in a foreign country is critical. I need teams to get out of their familiar environment, comfort zones, and face small challenges together. At the heart of Workbreaker's philosophy is the belief that curiosity is the engine of lifelong learning. It's the curiosity that drives us to explore beyond our comfort zones, to question the status quo, and to seek out new knowledge and experiences that create new business ideas and possibilities. We are very intentional about the schedule of the entire program from landing to take off – each leadership session or culture immersion activity is there for a reason and build off of each other. In 2021, Accenture Song, needed a creative way to recognize top performers with the goal was to give these team members the opportunity to experience a new culture abroad, focus on personal development, and gain inspiration by exploring retail trends and innovation in Europe.
