Graphein joins the Berzei 21 initiative – a story of urban regeneration Cities are constantly evolving, and sometimes, forgotten and underutilized spaces deserve a second chance. At Graphein, we believe in the power of technology to breathe new life into places with potential, and the #Berzei21 initiative has given us the perfect opportunity to contribute to such a transformation. A project with cultural and urban impact Berzei 21 is not just a restoration project; it is a vision for the future of urban spaces. Its manifesto (link in comments) highlights the necessity of revitalizing the underused public assets for and with the support of the local creative and cultural scene. The impact of such bottom-up initiatives is huge both at the neighborhood level and across the entire city. This idea resonated with us immediately, and our commitment to supporting projects with community value led us to join this initiative. Graphein’s contribution: 3D scanning of the former REBU halls Like any major transformation, this one unfolds in stages. Our team was honored to participate by conducting a high-precision 3D scan of the former REBU halls and the adjacent public space. This scan represents more than just a digital capture of reality — it serves as a solid foundation for research, planning, and urban reimagination. With the advanced technology we use, we help architects, urban planners, and creatives better visualize and understand the potential of this space. An educational project for future specialists But the impact of Berzei 21 extends beyond the physical space. We had the opportunity to turn this initiative into a learning experience for students from UAUIM and USAMV. We provided them with point cloud data generated from the scanning process, allowing them to gain hands-on experience for their diploma projects. Meeting with them for a session dedicated to best practices in point cloud utilization was an enriching experience, and the workshop led by Iosif Lavric proved to be a valuable opportunity for everyone involved. Bridging past, present, and future Through 3D scanning and innovative technology, we help create a bridge between the past, present, and future. Urban spaces are not just physical locations; they also carry memory and identity. As Jane Jacobs i once said: “Old ideas can sometimes use new buildings. New ideas must use old buildings.” Urban regeneration is precisely this process of transformation — uncovering beauty where others see only decay. That is why we are proud to contribute to this initiative alongside Nod Makerspace, @Fundația Comunitară București, Cartierul Creativ, BAZA, and the 40 organizations supporting Berzei 21. Our cities deserve projects that restore their vitality. At Graphein, we are delighted to be part of this urban regeneration story. #Berzei21 #Graphein #3DScanning #Innovation #CulturalRevitalization
