From the flares filling the stadium with colourful smoke and to the ultras leading the loud chants, Turkish football is an amazing show to watch. But the performances of the coaches guiding the teams in the Trendyol Süper Lig are just as impressive. 🥉 In 2005, after taking charge of newly promoted Sivasspor, Bülent Uygun had them at the top of the league for dozens of weeks in a row. This was a team with a market value more than 10 times lower than the big spenders in the Süper Lig. Back with Sivasspor in 2023, he turned their season around, lifting them from the bottom of the table to within reach of a European competition spot. 🥈 After hanging up his boots, İsmail Kartal kicked off his managerial career as an assistant coach at Fenerbahçe. In the 2023-2024 season, he was just a step away from winning the Süper Lig, finishing with an impressive 99 points. 🥇 Okan Buruk started his professional football career at Galatasaray. So it’s no surprise that his coaching journey eventually brought him back here. But before that, he led Akhisarspor to just their second-ever trophy and he won the Turkish Süper Lig title with Istanbul Başakşehir — a team with a market value six times smaller than Galatasaray’s. 3 of the last 5 Süper Lig seasons have been won by teams coached by Okan Buruk. 📌 In his first season at the helm of Başakşehir, Çağdaş Atan managed to qualify them for the Conference League. For a young club with a market value way lower than the big teams in the Süper Lig, being at the top is undeniable proof of the coach’s guidance and impact.

Today, we’re taking a look at the 2023-2024 season in the Saudi Pro League (SPL), also known as the Roshn Saudi League, and giving a shoutout to the top coaches. 3 Luís Castro, a former Portuguese footballer, has made a name for himself as a coach across several continents, leading top teams and achieving remarkable results. Until recently, he was coaching the team where CR7 plays and secured a second-place finish in the league, which means they automatically qualify for the AFC Champions League this season. 2 Pericles Chamusca has been coaching since 1994, marking an impressive 30-year career. He’s coached in his home country of Brazil, made his way to Japan, and is now showcasing his skills in Saudi Arabia. He pulled off an incredible fourth-place finish with Al-Taawon, a team valued at €33.5M, despite the top three teams being valued at over €100M. With his results, Péricles Chamusca has outperformed teams with much bigger budgets. 1 Jorge Jesus is a football legend, both as a player and now as a coach. He has managed European teams to dozens of national and continental trophies, as well as top teams in Asia and South America. Last season, he won everything on the national stage with Al-Hilal SFC in Saudi Arabia: the Championship, the Cup, and the Super Cup. It’s the kind of season any coach anywhere in the world would dream of.

🇲🇩🏆 With patience, skill, and a lot of hard work, FC Petrocub came out on top, winning both the Super Liga and the Cup in Moldova last season. He’s also sharpened his skills in Austria, Spain, Thailand, India, and Serbia. Now back in the J1 League with Kashima Antlers, he's keeping the team at the top and in the title race. 2. Dani Poyatos has been coaching youth teams for over 15 years across Europe and Asia, with two impactful spells at Real Madrid’s youth team. In 2023, he took over Gamba Osaka, a club with multiple Japanese championships and Emperor’s Cup wins. They're currently sitting high in the J1 League, aiming for a spot in the AFC Champions League. 1. Go Kuroda spent 28 years coaching a high school sports team, turning them into a national title contender. In 2023, he took on the challenge of leading a second-division team in Japan, despite some doubts about his appointment. He had an amazing season, achieving Machida Zelvia’s first-ever promotion to the J1 League. Plus, after more than 20 rounds, his team is sitting at the top of the J1 League standings.
