⚠️ Trigger Warning: Animal cruelty and corruption. This weekend, I attended a protest against kill shelters, and what I learned left me heartbroken and enraged. Here’s what's happening in many shelters across Romania: 🐾 Most shelters are owned by private companies, not animal welfare NGOs. Their priority is profit, not animal welfare. 💸 Kill shelters earn 5x more for euthanizing dogs than for spaying/neutering. Dogcatchers drive up to 7 hours from other counties to bring strays for kill. 🚫 Shelters are required to promote adoption, but instead limit visiting hours (open on paper for 8 hours, but often only 2). The dogs are kept in filthy conditions, covered in feces, which discourages adoption. 🛑 Shelters bill cities for food, medical care, and spay/neuter, but these are rarely provided since the dogs are destined for euthanasia. The shelters overcharge with no oversight. 💉 Euthanasia should follow strict protocols, with NGOs allowed to oversee. Many shelters euthanize at random times without announcing ahead (like 2 a.m.) to hide their brutal methods. At the recent mass killing at Tg. Jiu shelter, 60 dogs were killed in one hour, which is impossible to do humanely. Reports say they were murdered with axes or stabbed, with very loud music masking their cries, all under the shelter’s licensed vet supervision. 🚨Shelters are supposed to use Ketamine to sedate dogs before euthanasia. However, they use little or none, with the drugs "missing" from shelters, suggesting involvement in major drug trafficking. This corruption runs deep and won’t end with just one person. It’s a system profiting from animal suffering, and we need to act. What can we do? ✅ Spay & neuter your pets, and encourage others to do the same. Reducing strays helps lower the number of dogs entering shelters. ✅ Support animal welfare organizations that offer free spay/neuter programs and work to save animals from kill shelters. ✅ Spread awareness about this corruption and push for change. I've been thinking a lot about Fergie lately💔 With Arlo now adopted and Elsie thriving as she searches for her forever home, I can't help but wonder what life would have been like if Fergie had survived. Losing Fergie was incredibly hard. Though it's not the first time I've lost a kitten, it's the first time I lost one after they fought so hard for 4 weeks. I got so attached to this wonderful little soul. Fergie passed away from Fading Kitten Syndrome—a heartbreaking condition that’s difficult to diagnose and treat in time. For 3 weeks, he was growing and thriving, full of life, eating well, and gaining weight. He was close to starting semi-solids and moving away from milk, but then everything changed. He suddenly stopped drinking milk, regressed, and despite our best efforts to keep him hydrated and nourished, he began to... fade. He even had diarrhea but eventually became so dehydrated he had nothing left to expel. I’ll never forget the moment I knew he's about to leave us. I was bottle-feeding Fiona, another kitten I was nursing at the time and I heard him starting to breath rapidly and heavily. I rushed to his side, knowing it's his time. I held him close as his breaths became more shallow and painful to make. In his final moments, his little body twitched, perhaps struggling with his last few breaths but to me, it seemed like he was in agony. In just a couple of minutes, he took one last deep breath and was gone. I know there was nothing else I could do. He wouldn't have survived the drive to the vet and the vet wouldn't have anything else to do either beside put him out of his misery a little bit faster. I know the facts but it doesn't make me feel any less helpless. I still miss him so much and wish there was more I could have done. Fergie. 💔🌈

Romania is Finally Number One in Something Good!🐾 Exciting news from the European Pet Food Industry Federation (FEDIAF): Romanians prove that we are definitely cat people as Romania tops the list for cat-owning households in Europe! With 48% of households owning at least one cat, we’re far ahead of any other country. 🐱👏 But before we celebrate too much, it’s important to ask: how many of these are responsible cat owners? In Romania, too many cats are still left to roam outside, facing countless dangers. 🛑 Many are not spayed or neutered, leading to overpopulation and suffering. And sadly, some “cat owners” are just people who feed cats outdoors without providing proper care like vaccinations or vet visits. With such a high percentage of cat ownership, it’s shameful that Romania still struggles with stray cat overpopulation and lack of education and awareness (and frankly caring). Let’s work towards a future where every cat is cared for, safe, and loved! 💛

Elsie is Living Her Best Life! 💖 Elsie is blossoming into a sweet, cuddly little princess! 👑 Yesterday, she had her vet visit, where she got her second (and final) vaccine for the year, plus her FIV/FeLV test—which was negative! 🙌 Now, she’s officially ready for her forever home! 🏡 We’re still on the lookout for a responsible adopter for this little bundle of joy. While Elsie is happy on her own, she truly thrives with a feline friend by her side. We are open to having her adopted on her own if it's the right fit but we’d prefer for her to have a brother or sister to share her days with. 🐾 If you’re interested, please reach out to us! Let’s Talk Action! 🐾 Yesterday, we shared the story of the abandoned pups we found. We knew we couldn’t care for them long-term, but we still took action. Here’s what we did: 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗙𝗮𝘀𝘁: 🚗 We couldn’t leave them on the side of the road, so we brought them into the car and back to the city. We shared the responsibility—I took one pup, and my friend took the other. 𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗶𝘁 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸: 🏥 First stop? The vet! We got them dewormed, tested for diseases, and set up quarantine spaces in our tiny bathrooms. We grabbed dog food and basic supplies from the supermarket to make them as comfortable as possible. 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗢𝘂𝘁: 📣 We spread the word everywhere—among friends, local adoption groups, and animal rescue associations. We were determined to find them a safe, loving home. And yes, after a few days, we couldn't take care of them anymore and we surrendered them to the pound. Far from being an ideal situation. But they are not thrown back into the street or left in a dangerous area, giving them a fighting chance to thrive and hopefully find a loving family. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗿𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹. 🌟 Even when the solution isn’t perfect, doing something is better than doing nothing. Because leaving an animal in danger? Our Weekend Adventure 🐾 We don't vacation much, but when we do, it seems we always stumble upon abandoned babies. This time, we found these two sweet pups—a boy and a girl—stranded on the side of a forest road in the middle of nowhere. There wasn't a house in sight, and the road was curved and unlit. They were disoriented but clean, clearly freshly abandoned. 😢 These little ones were running into the road, and with nightfall approaching, we knew they wouldn't survive long. So, we took them in. We’re not equipped or experienced with dogs, but the alternative was a certain, painful death—and we just couldn't let that happen 💔. I took one pup and my colleague took the other one. We took them for a consult, dewormed them, and tested them for Parvovirus. These babies are only 6 weeks old, and all they want is love. We both put them in our bathroom, the only room available to quarantine them. After two sleepless nights —crying, barking, and desperate for comfort—we realized we couldn’t keep them there anymore. We asked absolutely everyone we knew and posted in all the local animal groups but finding a foster or adopter takes time and with no foster offers in sight, we had to take them to the city pound this morning. Our pound is a no-kill shelter, which is great, but it's far from ideal living conditions. We’re hoping someone will come and adopt these little ones soon. It was hard for us to keep them in quarantine in a tiny bathroom but once they're out of quarantine and can roam, they are simply adorable, playful and happy and deserve a loving home and we are gonna keep on supporting that. 🏡 So, what's the takeaway? Even though we knew we couldn’t keep them long-term or fully help them logistically or financially, we took that first step. We chose not to leave them stranded. 🎉 Happy News for Arlo! 🎉 You've probably seen it already in our stories but we are thrilled to share that this weekend, Arlo left the Floofery to join his new family and meet his new brother, Oscar, another adorable kitty. 🐾 Arlo was only up for adoption for a short while, but finding the right home was crucial. We were very careful, as many people look for kittens like Arlo for the wrong reasons. Fortunately, Arlo found the perfect match with a loving couple who have Oscar. Oscar recently lost his older brother to cancer and was lonely and grieving. As the new head of the house, Oscar was initially skeptical and didn't immediately warm up to Arlo, who is always happy, friendly and looking to connect. But after just a few days, Oscar and Arlo have started playing together and chasing each other around the house, blossoming into a beautiful friendship. 💖 We are so happy for Arlo and his new family!✨
