IDC, as a member of SOLIDAR had an opportunity to attend Festival Sabir 🌐⬇️
Earlier this month, SOLIDAR had the pleasure to attend and speak at the Sabir Festival, co-organised by Arci - Associazione Ricreativa e Culturale Italiana, CGIL, Acli - Associazioni cristiane lavoratori italiani, Caritas Italiana, along with a delegation of SOLIDAR members coming from all over Europe. 🌎 🤝SOLIDAR Spanish member Movimiento por la Paz - MPDL gave an overview of the situation regarding people seeking asylum in Spain, highlighting that 2023 was the deadliest year on record for people taking the Atlantic Route. For the EU Pact on Migration to promote fundamental rights and inclusion, its implementation must enhance safe and regular routes to Spain, maintain the level of safeguards provided for applicants in the current Spanish legislation, and promote a solidarity system for relocation amongst Spanish regions. 🗣Our Policy officer on migration, Julie Martinaud, talked about the few regular pathways for migration that exist in the EU framework, highlighting how they're too restricted to answer to the needs of both migrants and European societies, and their utilitarian design often pushes migrant workers into precariousness. 💡The Festival provided the space for reflection on the intersection of Europe's repressive migration policies, shrinking civic space and colonial legacy. SOLIDAR along with organisations in Sabir Festival continues to fight these repressive policies, and EU leadership's failure to hold Member States accountable. ✊ #SabirFestival Movimiento por la Paz - MPDL Arci - Associazione Ricreativa e Culturale Italiana Povod Institute for culture and the development of international relations in culture Rede Sem Fronteiras (RSF) Olof Palmes Internationella Center AWO Bundesverband e.V.
