Coventry University is exploring opportunities to work with the Science and Technology Facilities Council’s (STFC) Hartree Centre to help businesses in the Westlands explore the incredible opportunities offered by technologies such as AI and supercomputing. The two organisations have agreed to explore the development of a Digital and AI Skills Network aimed at understanding and enhancing current levels of adoption of advanced digital technologies in the West Midlands in the UK.. The Hartree Centre is part of the Science and Technology Facilities Council, one of Europe’s largest multi-disciplinary scientific research organisations and is home to some of the most advanced digital technologies and experts in the UK. Professor Paul Noon, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Enterprise & Innovation) at Coventry University, said: "This activity is intended to bring together the expertise of our colleges and research centres and our track record of skills delivery." Last week, our International Research and Innovation Programme Manager, Prof Nelson Ijumba attended the Global Engineering Conference #GECO2024 in Kigali, Rwanda where he joined fellow engineers to foster cross-border collaborations and create a network of individuals and organisations that will drive the evolution of the engineering profession. Discussions to explore collaborative capacity building opportunities in the industry were also held. Prof. Ijumba was thrilled to be part of a panel session where he shared insights on how we can collectively create the next generation of engineers as change makers. He emphasized that institutions have the responsibility to provide quality education in terms of knowledge and #skills. He further added that graduates must be equipped to be relevant to society and prepared to be fit for purpose. He also advocated for curriculum transformational change which involves collaborating with industry in design, delivery and assessment of curricula. Following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, Coventry University is set to discuss the potential to enhance simulation-based training and research with the COSEM Safety & Security Services Pte Ltd in Singapore. The purpose of the collaboration is to discuss and develop progression to Coventry degree programmes, develop potential areas of joint research, and building up capability and knowledge in emergency response training.This would include courses on Crisis Media, utilising Coventry University Enterprises’ Predict Media and Incident Command training.
