Hypertension is the most common medical disorder occurring during pregnancy,
complicating 5% to 10% of all pregnancies. 1 It is also the leading cause of maternal
mortality in industrialized countries, and its prevalence is increasing. 2 From 1998 to 2006,
the prevalence of hypertension during delivery hospitalizations increased from 67.2 to 81.4
