Much of the available surveillance data are provided with considerable lag time between
when they are collected and when they become available. For example, mortality data are
usually not available until 1 to 2 years after death. NHANES data may not become publicly
available for several years. Earlier availability of surveillance data would enable more timely
assessment of prevention programs and new treatments.
