Progress on achieving SDG 6
2020 Voluntary National Review
Mozambique reported that the population with access to improved sanitation in urban areas grew from 50% to 59%, and in rural areas from 15% to 28%. With regards to future progress on SDG 6 targets, the National Multi-Sectoral Plan of Action for the Reduction of Chronic Malnutrition (PAMRDC) has reported to set a target of reducing chronic malnutrition by more than 20% by 2020. The country estimated that chronic malnutrition is at 42%, with slow progress since 2013. Mozambique reported that there are several initiatives based on the integrated approach to nutrition with significant results or progress in their sectors. Additionally, despite the challenges and aggregated results, it is reported that the government, the civil society, the private sector and cooperation partners are working to promote the potential for integrated development of nutrition. This has led to increased initiatives in this area, as well as combining it with other areas such as WASH.
