Meet Suus, a 12-week-old Australian Labradoodle puppy who was suspected of having cricopharyngeal achalasia. When Suus was referred to the surgery department at AniCura MCD, she was experiencing significant difficulty swallowing. The strong suspicion of cricopharyngeal achalasia led to a swallowing study at the Universiteits Kliniek voor Gezelschapsdieren, which confirmed the diagnosis. Our surgical specialist, Mike Hubers, along with surgical intern Stef Kuipers, performed a myectomy of the cricopharyngeus muscle on Suus. Immediately after the surgery, Suus was able to swallow with ease. One week post-operation, Suus' referring veterinarian sent us a video update showing that Suus can now eat smoothly and is gaining weight! By working together and combining our expertise and resources, we achieved the best results for the patient.
