This month we spoke to Rudi Balla, Regional Key Account Manager at ALCEA, who shares his breadth of experience and dedication over his 20 years’ service at ASSA ABLOY.   “I relocated from South Africa with my wife and two young boys in November 2003. As a locksmith by trade, locks have always been part of my career, but looking back 20 years, I remember telling my wife, "When we get to the UK, I'm going to try something else, no more locks". I suppose one can say, "famous last words", but joining ASSA ABLOY changed my life, and I have not looked back since.”   What I love most about my role: Working with a talented and diverse team is one of the best parts of my role. Over the years, I have met and worked with some fantastic people, colleagues and customers alike. Solving challenges, tackling complex situations, and finding an effective solution or strategy; this is where I thrive.     What makes ASSA ABLOY special: As most of my career has been with ASSA ABLOY, comparing it with other organizations regarding opportunities, learning, and development isn't easy. What I can say is that if you are looking to progress in your career, at a world-renowned company, ASSA ABLOY has all the support, training, and development programs to help you get there. My 20 years’ experience and opportunities that I have had is a testament to this.   My experience of internal mobility: During my career at ASSA ABLOY, I have been very fortunate to have taken on several roles supporting my career development. I am not the one to say no to a challenge. Taking up new opportunities have given me job satisfaction and helped me further develop my knowledge and skills, and at the same time allowing me to add value to ASSA ABLOY.   My advice: Changing your role can be daunting, but I would advise everyone to go for it. Set personal goals, what you want to achieve and how you plan to get there. Last week was a showcase of innovation and collaboration for our Global Solutions teams! At the SSA Fall Conference and Trade Show in Las Vegas, PTI Security Systems presented their ProEdge smart latch and introduced SITEMAP, a tool that allows self-storage operators to review their infrastructure’s health at a glance. This year, Phoniro Sverige celebrates its 20th anniversary. Founded in Halmstad, Sweden in 2004, Phoniro offers digital lock solutions for home care.   ”Our journey began when a departing home care manager was asked about the biggest problem in home care. Surprisingly, it wasn’t bedsores or other care issues, but the keys to the homes of care recipients. The constant picking up and dropping off of keys, lost keys, and the difficulty in keeping track of them all posed a significant challenge. This problem seemed like a perfect fit for a technical solution, and thus, Phoniro was formed”, says Olle Bliding, Product Manager and one of the founders.   In 2018, Phoniro became part of the ASSA ABLOY family.   “Becoming part of ASSA ABLOY brought structure and best practices in many different areas. The support and experience of a large company provided the weight and strength that a small company often lacks. With a taste for innovation, PTI Security Systems has recently released two new products: the AP1 keypad and the ProEdge smart latch, complementing the HELOX padlock introduced in 2023. The three smart solutions provide operators the ability to give their tenants a complete Bluetooth experience from gate to door.   “The AP1 keypad adopts Bluetooth technology to provide a smarter rental interface, enhancing the convenience and security of self-storage facilities. The ProEdge smart latch allows secure access through Bluetooth and enables users to share digital keys easily and securely with real time notifications to both tenants and operators. Similarly, the HELOX lock also utilizes Bluetooth technology but is more portable than ProEdge and can be moved unit to unit”, says Nathan Davenport, CTO at PTI Security Systems.   The development of these products was driven by intensive research into consumer demands, evolving customer expectations and competitive offerings in light of technology shifts.   “These products mark a significant advancement compared to previous versions and current market offerings.
