As the world shifts towards a future with more electric vehicles (EVs), discussions about vehicle safety are evolving too. With differences in design, battery systems, and driving dynamics, some wonder whether EVs require unique safety features to address these new factors.

In the latest quarterly report, one key highlight was the continued strengthening of our position with the new OEMs in China. Our sales to domestic Chinese OEMs grew by 18%, significantly outpacing this group's vehicle production growth of 8.5%. This development reflects the strong growth of the Chinese automotive manufacturers, and Autoliv's position and collaboration with them continue to deepen. In 1953, two brothers in a small Swedish town began a journey that would change the future of automotive safety. Concerned for his wife's safety during a road trip, Lennart Lindblad realized that the seatbelts available at the time weren't the quality he wanted. Determined to find a better solution, he produced one himself with the help of his brother Stig, who made a belt buckle to match. What started as a simple solution to protect loved ones became the foundation of Autoliv, a company now dedicated to saving lives on roads around the world. From that first do-it-yourself seatbelt to the advanced technologies we develop today, our vision has always been the same: Saving More Lives.

At Autoliv, we’re committed to continuously advancing both safety and sustainability. With the innovations introduced in the Bernoulli™ Airbag, we foresee significant potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in its production process. The main advantages are the weight savings and the possibility to move faster to materials with a lower CO2e emission factor. By incorporating more sustainable materials, such as PET for the cushion, we aim to lower the overall carbon footprint of the airbag. Our current estimates project a 20% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in the short term, with even greater savings in the long term by increasing material circularity. This is a step to move mobility safety closer to a safer and more environmentally responsible future.

At Autoliv, we're applying our AI-powered Computer Vision technology to over 70 use cases across various fields, including logistics, safety, productivity, and maintenance. As we venture into the next-generation cameras and algorithms, our focus is on practical solutions that enhance both internal operations and external platforms. By improving processes and outcomes, we help support safer and more efficient workplaces.

This highlights the company’s ability to adapt and thrive in the constantly changing environment in which we operate. At the end of September, the Autoliv Tech Show 2024 was held at Hyundai Motor India Engineering (HMIE), where we showcased our latest innovations in passive safety solutions. As a major tech center for Hyundai Kia, HMIE had the opportunity to experience our cutting-edge technologies firsthand, including high-efficiency airbags, rollover curtain airbags, and trumpet airbags. Our adaptive safety seatbelts and advanced steering wheel were also featured, demonstrating their ability to enhance occupant safety and comfort. This event not only highlighted Autoliv's technical expertise and innovations but also strengthened our collaboration with HMIE, reinforcing our shared commitment to advancing automotive safety.

With 14 technical centers and 20 crash test tracks worldwide, we conduct safety tests that reflect diverse environments and regional requirements. This global infrastructure allows us to simulate real-world crash scenarios, supporting product development and validation on a broad scale. Through our widespread presence of local facilities, we ensure that safety remains a top priority wherever we operate.
