An independent, non-profit ’do tank’ developing practical solutions to sustainability challenges.

Om oss

Axfoundation is an independent, non-profit organization working practically and concretely towards building a sustainable society. Believing strongly in business as a driving force for change, we often initiate and run projects together with the private sector. Together with over 300 partners across sectors and industries we tackle local and global sustainability challenges based on practical issues related to the things we buy, the food we eat and the resources we use. Skogs- och Lantbruksakademien will host a seminar (in Swedish) about legumes, moderated by our own Maria Lundesjö. The seminar will explore the production and consumption of legumes from various perspectives, including cultivation, processing, innovation, trade, health, environment, and consumer behavior. ➡️ Join the seminar at KSLA or online https://bit.ly/3Uv2xV1 📅 November 5, 2024 🕙 09:30 - 16:00 CET 📍 KSLA, Drottninggatan 95 B, Stockholm, or online

What if product information from the entire wool value chain – from sheep farm to final garment – could be traced? What if this information could be made available through a simple QR code placed on garments? In this report, The Fiber Traceability Initiative presents a digitally traceable wool supply chain, developed based on global standards for product identification. 🤝 The Fiber Traceability Initiative is a collaboration between Axfoundation, Filippa K, GS1 Sweden and VirtualRouteZ

Cooking with a Climate Budget – Within the Planetary Boundaries🌱 🏆 One of the final challenges for the chefs is to cook within a climate budget. Last year, the chefs had a limited budget, but this year, their budget consists of three kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalents. But what exactly is a climate budget, and how does it work? Meet Stefan Eriksson, Head of Ingredients for Chef of the Year, and Anna Henning Moberg, Head of Operations at Axfoundation’s development center, Torsåker Farm, for a conversation about sustainability, gastronomic creativity - and how and why we cook with climate budgets. 🌟 During the Chef of the Year 2024 competition, Axfoundation is providing expert advice on sustainability. Tomorrow, on October 17, the final will take place, where six finalists will compete for the title of Chef of the Year 2024! 🔗Read more about the final challenge in Chef of the Year https://bit.ly/3zYKpvM #ChefOfTheYear2024 #ChefOfTheYear #TorsåkerFarm #FoodOfTheFuture #ActToInspire #InspireToAct #ClimateBudget #CarbonDioxideEquivalents #Axfoundation Årets Kock AB

Solar Energy – A Bright Future, but What Happens to Old Solar Panels? ☀️ Todays launch of "World Energy Outlook 2024" by International Energy Agency (IEA), highlighted that the geopolitical tensions reinforce the need for faster expansion of clean energy. When it comes to solar energy, the new numbers shows that the global capacity increased by over 80% to 425 GW in 2023. In the EU it increased to almost 60 GW, twice the level seen in 2021. “It’s important that solar energy is expanding, but with the increased capacity comes the responsibility to develop a sustainable, circular system for managing old solar panels. We must ensure that this growth doesn’t lead to increasing waste problems in the future, and that we find a circular solution to tomorrow’s challenges,” says Johanna Olofsson Behrman, Project Manager for Future Materials at Axfoundation. Through the CircSolar project, we bring stakeholders from across the value chain with the goal of proposing a system for sustainable and financially viable management of solar panels. 🤝A collaboration between Axfoundation, El-Kretsen, Kungliga Tekniska högskolan, REMONDIS Sverige, Stena Recycling AB, Svea Solar

🌾 At the fields of Torsåker Farm, researchers from SLU - Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet are working on developing the world’s first perennial barley – Bulbous Barley! Bulbous Barley will help to reduce carbon emission and improve soil health. This year’s samples were recently harvested and are now being analyzed at the SLU laboratory to further advance the development of this crop. "We are analyzing the plants' DNA and genetic diversity to identify the best specimens. Using this method, we can breed perennial crops adapted to the sustainable agriculture of the future," says Anna Westerbergh, Associate Professor in Genetics and Plant Breeding, SLU. This innovation could, in the future, contribute to more sustainable food production and agriculture with a reduced environmental impact. Learn more about the project and how we are taking the next step toward sustainable farming! 🌱➡️ https://bit.ly/3R66eiq #acttoinspire #inspiretoact #knylkorn #perennialcrops #perennial
