Om oss
The Centre for Commercialization of Regenerative Medicine (CCRM) Nordic is located at GoCo Health Innovation City in Mölndal, Gothenburg, Sweden with specialized infrastructure and expertise focused on development, manufacturing and commercialization of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs). ATMP is the European Medicines Agency (EMA) classification of cell and gene therapy drugs, and tissue engineered drugs. These products must be produced to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards and complete clinical trials before applying for market approval and becoming available to patients. Organizations like CCRM ensure ATMPs are manufactured and controlled according to the required quality standards, strengthening the chances these novel therapeutics will make it to patients. CCRM Nordic is a not-for-profit infrastructure for commercialization of advanced therapies, based on the successful CCRM model founded in Toronto, Canada and formed as a public private partnership backed by an industry consortium and the Swedish Innovation agency Vinnova.

A huge congratulations to CCRM and OmniaBio for reaching this fantastic milestone! We at CCRM Nordic are excited to follow your journey ahead.
CCRM is thrilled to announce the grand opening of OmniaBio's new North American #CGT manufacturing and #AI centre of excellence, which is now Canada’s largest #CDMO facility dedicated to CGT. CCRM's vision and efforts to build a thriving regenerative medicine ecosystem in Canada has always included manufacturing. First we built the Centre for Advanced Therapeutic Cell Technologies with Cytiva and the Government of Canada (2016) to industrialize cell manufacturing; next it was the Centre for Cell and Vector Production with University Health Network (2019), a #GMP facility for Phase I and II in-human clinical trials; and the culmination of this effort is our subsidiary, OmniaBio, and the facility at McMaster Innovation Park, with the capacity and capabilities for Phase III and commercial manufacturing. It's an exciting day for patients in Canada and worldwide. Thank you to our employees and colleagues at OmniaBio for all their hard work. Thank you to our partner MEDIPOST America, Inc. 메디포스트 MEDIPOST and to Invest Ontario for their funding support and investment in 2022 that allowed us to get the facility built. 🌟 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐄𝐌𝐀 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜 𝐒𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐮𝐦 𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐓𝐌𝐏𝐬 Several CCRM Nordic team members recently attended the Scientific Symposium on Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs) organized by the Committee for Advanced Therapies (CAT) at European Medicines Agency in Amsterdam. Sarah and Juliana attended in person, while Helena joined online. 🚀 This event marked 15 years since the #ATMP Regulation came into operation, and it was a fantastic opportunity to reflect on the progress made in the field of gene- and cell/tissue-based medicines. The symposium highlighted the significant contributions of CAT to the regulatory framework for ATMPs in Europe, showcasing 27 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘀 that are now offering treatment options for unmet medical needs. It was inspiring to hear about the evolution of CAT and its adaptation to the challenges posed by novel classes of ATMPs, always with the aim of ensuring high-quality, safe, and efficacious products. One of the key takeaways from the event was 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒅𝒆𝒆𝒑 𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒖𝒏𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒅 𝒅𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒎𝒖𝒍𝒕𝒊-𝒅𝒊𝒔𝒄𝒊𝒑𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒓𝒚 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒕𝒊𝒔𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑪𝑨𝑻 𝒃𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒆𝒙 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅 𝒐𝒇 𝑨𝑻𝑴𝑷 𝒅𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒍𝒐𝒑𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕. The collaborative approach, particularly the meaningful involvement of patient representatives, stood out as a central theme. 💡 This event was a powerful reminder of the progress made over the last 15 years and how collaboration between scientists, regulators, industry, and patients will continue to drive advancements in the field of ATMPs. #CCRMNordic #ATMP #ScientificSymposium #regulatorycompliance #HealthcareInnovation #EMA #celltherapy #genetherapy #innovation

The US has launched the Biotechnology and Bioeconomy Initiative, partnering with the Bio5 coalition (USA, UK, EU, South Korea, and India). Organizations like NIIMBL, funded by the US Innovation Office, are advancing readiness level 3, bridging the gap from lab to market. This is where CCRM Nordic is making strides, supported by Vinnova funding, as we work to scale innovations and hand over commercialization-ready solutions to the market. Check out Sarah Callens's post for more insights and keynotes from BioProcess International and Cell & Gene Therapy International #CCRMNordic #biotechnology #biotech #lifescience #Partnership #Innovation
I was privileged to attend BioProcess International and Cell & Gene Therapy International last week in Boston, representing CCRM Nordic. Here are a few reflections from the event. The kickoff plenary by Sarah Glaven, Principal Assistant Director for Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, drew a standing-room-only crowd. Sarah emphasized that biology is precise chemistry and that biomanufacturing resources can be sustainably sourced from biomass. Her remarks reignited my passion for science and highlighted the growing government recognition of our field's role in shaping a sustainable future. This is where CCRM Nordic is making strides in Sweden, supported by Vinnova funding, as we work to scale innovations and hand over commercialization-ready solutions for therapy developers. Key takeaways: -The approach of prioritizing clinical data early and scaling later is no longer recommended. -The future of the field may not be 100% allogeneic, but it must be closed and automated. -Plan your changes. -Utilize risk assessments. -Use scale-down models early for process understanding. -Collaborate with strategic CDMOs. -Be prepared for new bottlenecks, such as QC and analysis which occur as we automate the process. -Work with your vendors. For me, the conference marked a shift. People in process, analytical, and manufacturing development roles are gaining greater importance in the clinical pipeline, with a growing emphasis on foresight and setting up for success early. The event also spotlighted wellness and sustainability, with the Bioquest app making it fun to track all the initiatives at the conference. Finally, a huge thank you to the organizers for the fantastic party at the Museum of Science! Thank you to Iris Öhrn for connecting us to the organizing team! #biotechweekboston #CCRMNordic
