A good example of the use of hydrodemolition, in this case for bridge widening application!
At Conjet Group one of the things we always talk about when it comes to hydrodemolition, is the focus on repair and preservation. There will always be a need for "tear down and replace" in certain situations but with advancements in technology, and in today's economic climate, hydrodemolition allows you to complete some of these historically challenging projects ahead of schedule and under budget. A good example of this is the use of hydrodemolition for bridge widening. In the United States we have seen a significant increase in the specification and utilization of hydrodemolition on both public and private bridge improvement projects. Historically you would need a group of laborers with chipping hammers working long hours to remove the concrete and expose the rebar to tie into a new structure. One of the issues with this is that its time consuming, puts stress on the laborer and the structure, and it can often take as much time to mechanically straighten the damaged rebar as it does to do the concrete removal. With the use of robotic hydrodemolition, you reduce the need for chipping which lessens the risk of microcracks and is safer for the laborer, quickly exposes the rebar, and leaves the rebar undamaged, cleaned, and prepared to be tied into the new structure.
