Meet Oscar 😍🧩 Oscar lives in Frederikssund with his mother, father and older brother. When we met Oscar he was 16 months old and had recently been diagnosed with unilateral right sided spastic cerebral palsy due to periventricular leukomalacia. 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘆𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗢𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗿 When standing in the Meerkat doing puzzles, Oscar is training his gross motor function as well as developing his spatial awareness, balance and object-positioning skills. Oscar is standing in the Meerkat to allow him to weight bear on both legs during standing. Furthermore, the Meerkat could be used to challenge his segmental development of trunk control. The Meerkat is a dynamic standing frame designed to support an upright standing position for children with varying needs. It also features both a rocker enabling the child to move forward/backwards in a rocking motion and a sideways rocker allowing for weight shifting from one leg to the other by rocking to the sides. The standing frame can compensate and support the child in different positions, making it easier for the child to play with toys, participate in activities and interact socially with family and friends. 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗔𝗸𝘀𝗲𝗹 ✨ Aksel lives with his mother and father in a small town near Vejle in Denmark. They live in a cosy house with a lot of space for Aksel and their two dachshunds. 🐕 Aksel is one year old and is a very active, happy and curious boy. He is constantly exploring his surroundings and keeping his parents busy. Aksel has Silver-Russell Syndrome (SRS), which is a rare genetic disorder. Children with SRS are born very small and continue to be significantly smaller than their typical developing peers throughout their life. At birth Aksel was only 47 cm long and weighed 2800 g. Today, he is 64 cm long and weighs 5 kg. Besides restricted growth, some of the most common symptoms of SRS include poor appetite and feeding difficulties, so it is an important daily focus for Aksel to get enough to eat and drink. Aksel has a nasogastric tube to ensure adequate nutrition and energy for growth and his general development. When Aksel is eating it is important for him that he is happy and comfortable in the seat he is sitting in. If he is not happy with the seat, his mouth stays closed. Therefore Aksel sits in an x:panda shape ts with an infant seat several times a day. The infant seat provides a comfortable and secure seat that provides a stable base of support for him, making it easier for him to use his hands and arms for play and exploration.
