Today, the Biden-Harris Administration announced that the U.S. Department of Commerce and Infinera have signed a non-binding preliminary memorandum of terms (PMT) to provide up to $93 million in proposed direct funding under the CHIPS and Science Act. The proposed CHIPS funding would support the construction of a new fab in San Jose, California, and a new advanced test and packaging facility in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Today, we’re thrilled to announce that we’ve signed preliminary terms with the U.S. Department of Commerce to receive proposed funding under the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act. Combined with tax credits, this could bring us up to $200 million in federal incentives, plus potential state and local benefits. We’re honored that the U.S. government has recognized our optical semiconductor capabilities.   Infinera invented photonic integrated circuit (PIC) technology as a startup and along the way we built an impressive list of industry-first innovations based on our capabilities in optical semiconductor manufacturing, testing and packaging. We’ve come a long way from that pioneering start to the point when the importance of the technology is felt across industries from healthcare and education to defense and AI infrastructure. With these proposed incentives, the U.S. government is helping to fuel the next phase of innovation in optical semiconductor technology while increasing the country’s economic, supply chain and national security.   This recognition is not just a testament to our innovative semiconductor capabilities, but also to the incredible talent and expertise behind our innovation. Infinera and the U.S. Department of Commerce have signed a non-binding preliminary memorandum of terms for Infinera to receive up to $93 million in direct funding as part of the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act. This direct funding, when combined with investment tax credits available under the CHIPS and Science Act, could result in more than $200 million in total federal incentives as well as potential state and local incentives. This proposed funding would support the expansion and modernization of both Infinera’s semiconductor capabilities in Silicon Valley, California and its advanced test and packaging capabilities in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, increasing the company’s existing domestic manufacturing capacity by an estimated factor of ten.
