This morning, we attended a breakfast seminar on the European Health Data Space (EHDS) organised by The Swedish eHealth Agency. The EHDS aims to improve interoperability within and across member EU member states 🇪🇺🏥 Much remain to be settled regarding EHDS, but from today’s seminar we found the following three points most compelling: 💱 Ehälsomyndigheten expect that use of structured data in the prioritised data areas such as patient overviews will bridge translation challenges. From our perspective, it sounds like use of clinical coding then must increase - which may be quite a big change for healthcare professionals. 🗝️ Direct access to data for primary use will be possible through a dedicated portal, where patients can control how data is shared. We wonder how this will affect the actual value gained from mandatory data sharing - from the healthcare professional’s point of view, having to access data in separate interfaces is not the best solution. ⏳The responsibility to adapt healthcare IT systems to the mandatory sharing that EHDS stipulates, will lie on the service providers, not the healthcare providers paying for those systems. It remains to see whether they will be able to meet the expected timeline (as shown in the photo).
