The 2024 EU report on maritime CO₂ emissions highlights a huge opportunity: 99% of #shipping fuel is still fossil-based, but the shift to cleaner alternatives is accelerating. With #FuelEUMaritime and rising ETS costs, shipowners need practical, scalable solutions.   At Liquid Wind, we are fully committed to meeting the growing demand for sustainable fuels. It’s been a year since Liquid Wind in partnership with leading decarbonization companies Alfa Laval, Carbon Clean, Siemens Energy and Topsoe inaugurated Europe’s first eFuel Design & Performance Centre (DPC) to innovate, improve and accelerate the deployment of #eFuel facilities. What's happened since then? We spoke with Jes Anker Batting, Head of the DPC, about the progress so far: Since its inauguration, the #eFuelDPC has established its own purpose-built office in Hørsholm, Denmark, where a strong team of partner representatives has been working closely together to deliver several important milestones:   ✅ Defining the standard 100 kt eMethanol plant: A modularized and standardized approach to continuously improve eMethanol plants until the end of FEED. ✅ Building a technology roadmap: A common plan for implementing technology updates, improvements, and new releases. ✅ Reducing project risks: Creating clarity and structure in highly complex technologies and applying robust solutions to enhance reliability. ✅ Launching improvement projects: To accelerate time-to-market (TTM), minimize risks and increase competitiveness.   The DPC has also hosted several events to showcase it’s unique setup and collaborative approach. Liquid Wind is proud to have contributed to the Industrial Carbon Management Forum’s Working Group on Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) and co-developed the Report on Enabling Conditions for the Industrial Deployment of CCU. Now submitted to the European Commission, this report underscores CCU’s potential to drive climate mitigation by reducing reliance on fossil carbon. It outlines key challenges—including complex policy frameworks, financial barriers, and infrastructure gaps—that currently hinder large-scale #CCU deployment, particularly in hard-to-abate industries such as #aviation, #maritimetransport, and chemicals. The report offers actionable recommendations, including streamlining regulations, creating market-pull mechanisms, and securing financial support through initiatives like the EU Innovation Fund, to accelerate the adoption of CCU technologies. In the broader geopolitical context, Europe’s push for CCU aligns with its strategic goals of industrial #decarbonization, energy security, and reduced reliance on imported fossil #fuels, reinforcing its position as a global leader in sustainable technologies.
