On Monday evening, we continued our Nordic tour and hosted a seminar in Helsinki arranged by Suomen Vakuutusyhdistys ry (the Finnish Insurance Association). The theme was "How AI changes the game in personal injury claims". At the mingle afterwards, Marko Ahokas and Johan Larsson had many interesting discussions, and a comment from one of the participants summarised it all: "I think the Finnish insurance industry is up for a time of great change. And I mean that in a positive way. Time to get on the AI train!" We could not agree more. Thanks for having us!

AI changes the role of claims handlers. From information gatherers to decision-makers. Every claims decision requires precision—understanding the case and the claimant's medical history. When medical records are scattered, and details are buried in text, seeing the full picture is hard. Mavera DSS transforms how claims handlers work with medical records. For example, they get automatic lists and graphs of details like hospital visits, medications, diagnoses, and even weight development over the years. Every detail from the medical records can be extracted and organized, making it easy to digest and connect the dots. Claims handling should be about making decisions, settling claims, and helping customers—not paperwork. If you’re ready to take the next step towards smarter, more efficient claims handling, explore what Mavera DSS can do for your organization.

As AI continues to evolve, it’s clear that claims handling will never be the same. For claims handlers, this transformation is about empowering you to work smarter, more efficiently, and adapt to the changing landscape. Here’s how AI is reshaping the role of claims handlers: • Less time on admin, more focus on impact: AI can automate repetitive tasks like document review, data entry, and initial assessments. This allows claims handlers to spend more time on critical decisions and meaningful customer interactions—where common sense and empathy are irreplaceable. • Faster, more accurate decisions: With AI summarizing complex medical documentation and providing instant insights, claims handlers can make faster, more informed decisions. This improves efficiency while reducing the risk of human error. • AI will automate simpler claims: As AI advances, it will soon be able to fully automate simpler claims processes. Claims handlers will shift focus to overseeing AI-generated decisions, ensuring accuracy, and reviewing the communication with claimants. The role will evolve to guide and refine AI's outputs, combining human insight with AI efficiency. • A new level of job satisfaction: With administrative burdens reduced and simpler, boring and repetitive tasks automated, claims handlers can focus on what truly matters—delivering fair outcomes and strengthening customer relationships. AI enhances the role, making it more impactful and rewarding. However, as AI enables faster claims handling, the size of claims teams will decrease. These changes aren’t unique to claims handling—every job will be impacted in some way. To stay ahead in this AI-driven world, it’s crucial to embrace AI and learn how to use it to your advantage. Those who adapt will remain relevant and thrive in their new roles. The future of claims handling is here. The question is: Are you ready to evolve with it?

It’s tempting to take a "wait and see" approach when it comes to adopting AI in claims management. But those who wait risk falling behind as early adopters begin to unlock significant benefits in both efficiency and accuracy. Here’s why embracing AI now gives you a competitive edge: • Faster processing times: AI allows claims teams to automate repetitive tasks like document review, reducing the time spent on each claim and speeding up the overall claims process. Quicker decisions lead to better outcomes for claimants and faster settlements. • Reduced errors and improved accuracy: With AI, claims managers can ensure that data is structured and decisions are based on accurate, comprehensive information. This minimizes human error and ensures consistent, fair outcomes. • Greater operational efficiency: By automating routine tasks, AI frees up your team to focus on more complex cases and higher-value work. Early adopters are already seeing the impact of streamlined workflows and improved team productivity. • Staying ahead of the competition: AI is no longer a distant technology—it's here, and it’s transforming how insurers handle claims. Early adoption means being at the forefront of this change, positioning your team for long-term success. Mavera DSS offers scalable AI solutions that integrate seamlessly into your current claims processes, helping your team move faster, reduce overhead, and make better decisions—with fast onboarding and no need for internal development. The future of claims management is already here. By embracing AI now, you can lead the way and set your team up for long-term success. Are you ready to start?

Insurance companies are increasingly recognizing that AI will play a crucial role in the future of their business. But with so many opportunities for automation, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Where should you start? The good news is that there’s a clear place to begin. Instead of approaching AI as one massive, full-scale project, the most impactful first step is structuring your data. Whether your goal is to automate workflows, improve decision-making, or boost efficiency, structuring unstructured data will lay the foundation for every stage of your AI journey. And claims management is full of unstructured data that is still being reviewed manually. Here’s why structuring your data is the best place to start: • Immediate benefits for claims handlers: Organizing and categorizing data enables faster reviews and decisions. Claims handlers no longer need to spend hours manually sorting through medical records, lab reports, and radiography images. AI tools can automatically structure this data, providing clear insights at a glance and allowing claims handlers to focus on the critical aspects of each claim. • Faster, more accurate decisions: With structured data, claims handlers can quickly access the most relevant information, reducing errors and ensuring faster, more accurate settlements for claimants. • Smoother workflows from day one: Structuring data immediately improves the efficiency of your claims process. Instead of wading through scattered information, claims handlers receive organized data instantly, leading to more streamlined, productive workflows. • Laying the foundation for future automation: Once your data is structured, you’re well-positioned to begin automating more complex tasks. Whether it’s document analysis or decision-making workflows, structuring data is a critical first step that ensures your AI initiatives can scale and deliver meaningful results. No matter how you plan to incorporate AI into your claims management, structuring your data will be essential. It not only brings immediate improvements in efficiency and accuracy but also opens the door to deeper automation down the line. If you’re ready to start your AI journey, begin with the step that guarantees immediate impact—and sets you up for long-term success.

Exciting news! Our customer Protector announced today that we have entered into a collaboration to enhance their personal injury claims management process using our newly developed AI functionality. Our partnership aligns perfectly with Protector’s IT strategy, which aims to automate tasks that do not require manual handling. Louise Bohman, Head of personal injury claims at Protector Försäkring Sverige comments: "We are constantly looking for ways to streamline the non-value-adding parts of our workflow. This allows us to dedicate more time and energy to what matters most: maintaining good dialogue with our policyholders and claimants. In personal injury claims, there is a lot of ‘low-hanging fruit,’ as administrative work tends to consume a significant amount of time." Read the full press release here: https://hubs.ly/Q02RPysZ0

In today’s competitive job market, how can insurers boost their appeal to potential employees in a competitive market? A recent survey of Swedish young professionals placed employers in the insurance industry low in the rankings, consistent with earlier surveys. Emil Adén, Country Manager at Universum, commented: "Understanding and meeting the changing needs of young talent is crucial to attracting and retaining the right people today." As insurance is often perceived as a traditional industry, the challenge to attract the younger part of the workforce is even greater. Even more so, when many employees in the sector are nearing retirement in the coming years. We’re not suggesting that AI is the only solution to this complex issue, but it can certainly play a significant role. By adopting AI-powered tools, insurers can minimize the time spent on repetitive, routine tasks and allow their teams to focus on more meaningful, value-creating work and customer care. This is something that is almost expected by younger colleagues. In some cases, AI may even reduce the need to replace retiring staff. It is time to get on the AI train. #Insurance #TalentAttraction #AI # #Insurtech
