We asked some of our dedicated staff at Medicon Village how they spend their summer holidays and about their professional focus for the second half of 2024. This is how Petter Magnusson Hartman answered:   "After an intense and successful first half of the year, I have really enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Our summer plans included a trip to Croatia and, of course, enjoying the Swedish summer in the countryside. Recharging has been essential as we anticipate an exciting autumn at Medicon Village.   Some highlights include the inauguration of our new lab facility, the announcement of this year’s donation recipients from our owner, Mats Paulsson’s Foundation for Research, Innovation, and Societal Development, and the launch of a new initiative to attract talent to our region in close collaboration with our partners. I am also eagerly looking forward to expanding our team to meet the growing demand to join our community, not least from international companies."   #lifescience #sciencepark

We asked our friends at Supporting Partner Potter Clarkson to come up with some summer holiday food for thought on IP for founders and executives who are too busy to reflect on these topics during hectic workdays. Our intention was to publish one thought each week, and this is the fourth and final one: "WHAT’S THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PATENTABILITY AND FREEDOM TO OPERATE?   If you’re in the early stages of your development, it is crucial to conduct preliminary searches to evaluate the patentability and freedom-to-operate (FTO) of your invention.  These searches will help determine if your invention is definitely novel and inventive, as well as whether you may encounter any obstacles in implementing your invention without infringing existing patents. But whether you have FTO or not is different to whether you have something that you can patent yourself – your invention can be new and inventive, but you might not have FTO.   Firstly, let's clarify the distinction between patentability and FTO.   Patentability refers to determining whether your invention meets the criteria for obtaining a patent. To assess patentability, you need to search for documents that disclose features of your invention and identify any prior art that might render your invention obvious. Remember, prior art can be journal articles, abstracts and patents.   FTO analysis focuses on determining whether your invention could potentially infringe on existing patents or other intellectual property rights.  Infringement occurs when your invention utilizes each step or feature of someone else's patented method or product claim. FTO searches only look for patents.   So, when you are looking for prior art documents, the types of searches you will want to do to look at patentability vs FTO are actually pretty different. Basic patentability searches can be conducted independently and fairly easily but a full FTO search require more comprehensive and careful consideration. To increase certainty of FTO, you should focus on patents and patent applications that disclose the individual features of your intended actions, as well as their combinations." If this raises any questions, or if you have any other IP-related queries, feel free to book a free one-on-one chat with the most qualified attorney for your technology at a time that suits you best. The link to book this, along with a text on "IP Primer for scientist-founders" can be found in the comment section below. #innovation #foodforthought #preparingforautumn

We asked some of our brilliant minds at Medicon Village how they spend their summer holidays and about their professional focus for the second half of 2024. This is how Karin von Wachenfeldt at Truly Labs answered:   "Summer 2024 is finally here. After years of waiting the new laboratory building is ready, and we are ready to move into our new Truly Labs location. First of July and everybody’s ready to lift, carry, clean and put into order, all our stuff and make sure we get ready to start activities in our new “Truly Labs Home”. Together we DID IT!   A full week of dedicated moving, followed by weeks and days of getting things in place we are now in place to start the autumn in our brand new location! Of course, we celebrated with PIZZA – the one factor that dominates my summer 2024. When the move was finally ready, vacation time offered more pizza, and more work! Firewood for our pizza oven, and of course, more pizza! I’m going to be ready, body and soul, for a new active autumn."   #brilliantminds #lifescience #sciencepark Truly Labs

We asked some of our brilliant minds at Medicon Village how they spend their summer holidays and about their professional focus for the second half of 2024. This is how Eva Ekesbo at Betahälsan answered:   "Holiday is all about relaxation and avoiding too much planning! Doing things according to the weather, no long trips that drain energy before, during, and after. The Swedish summer is simply too wonderful to leave.   My husband and I have attended two outdoor concerts at Bjerreds Station, celebrated our 30-year-old daughter, watched Nadal win the quarterfinals in Båstad in a 4-hour, three-set match, taken bike rides in the surroundings, had lunch at Holy Smoke in Krapperup, played golf, visited friends, hosted friends, and enjoyed wonderful sea baths. Now we are spending three days in Österlen, where we are indulging in wonderful raspberries from Hallonodlingen N.Björstorp in Brösarp – well worth a visit for self-picking and freezing for the winter!   Betahälsan has had a successful year of operations where we have grown steadily. The focus this autumn is to continue on this path and grow further. Betahälsan’s goal is that our efforts, both for companies within and outside Medicon Village, will make a difference for both individual employees and the organisation, so that everyone can feel and perform their best."   #brilliantminds #lifescience #sciencepark BetaHälsan

We asked some of our brilliant minds at Medicon Village how they spend their summer holidays and about their professional focus for the second half of 2024. This is how Jesper Sellin at Potter Clarkson answered:   "My summer holidays will usually include some travelling and exploring of new places, either in Sweden or abroad, as well as plenty of time at our vacation home in Hälsingland, close to Järvsö. This year, the family first went to Florida where we stayed in Miami with trips to the Everglades and Key West. Although great to travel, there is nothing as relaxing as arriving at and spending time at our summer house. The key is always finding the right balance between working on the property (and there is plenty of work!) while also taking the time to read a good book or go fishing with the kids in our lake Istesjön.   So far, I am glad that I have not had to interrupt my holiday for anything critical, which is never guaranteed in our profession. When back at work, I will continue developing Potter Clarksons licensing and litigation practice in Sweden together with my colleagues and our amazing clients. I know already that some interesting cases are waiting, which will make it easier to quickly get back up to speed. I am also looking forward to going down to Lund again for the Future of Swedish and Danish Life Science at Medicon Village in late August, which I am sure will be a great event with many inspiring presentations and discussions!"   #brilliantminds #lifescience #sciencepark Potter Clarkson

We asked some of our brilliant minds at Medicon Village how they spend their summer holidays and about their professional focus for the second half of 2024. This is how Ann Helen Forsling at Red Glead Discovery answered:   "I started the summer with a bike ride together with my husband, children and their respective partners at Ven outside Landskrona, a very nice place to spend a day on the bicycle. Continuing in Skåne we surprised a dear friend turning 50 last week, by offering him and us a couple of hours learning archery and later a bike ride to a concert with one of his favorite bands – a very good day. Currently I am enjoying our second home away from home in Gränna, Småland and the view behind me is from the mountain in Gränna, where we today had our yearly shrimp sandwich at Kaffestugan. We are this summer having a number of good friends visiting us here, and we will continue the week with another tradition - our traditional bicycle day at Visingsö on Friday. This is combined with visiting the yearly art fair that takes place there the first weekend in August every year. The Swedish summer has so far shown itself from a good enough side and I am grateful to be living here. During the autumn I look forward to continuing the journey together with all of my colleagues at Red Glead Discovery, where our vision is to contribute to a better future for both people and planet. This is to be achieved through the contract research services we provide to our customers, helping them to develop new therapies, as well as our continuous work to make drug discovery more sustainable. When returning to work my primary focus will be to contribute to this from the financial and administrative side, to make it possible to for us to further develop our services."   #brilliantminds #lifescience #sciencepark RED GLEAD DISCOVERY

We asked some of our dedicated staff at Medicon Village how they spend their summer holidays and about their professional focus for the second half of 2024. This is how Lottie Olsson Norrsén answered:   "Exploring Europe from horseback: year 3! This year, my equestrian adventures have taken me to the beautiful and volcanic island of São Miguel in the Azores, Portugal. Not only did I get to explore this tropical paradise on horseback, but I also ventured into the sea, creating unforgettable memories!    One of the highlights of my trip was meeting Christina and Claude de Laval at Quinta da Terça. This wonderful Swedish couple rescues horses, giving them a loving home and allowing horse lovers like me to discover the island from their backs. During my stay, I had the pleasure of learning about local traditions, such as making tea at a nearby factory and growing the sweetest pineapples, a process that takes 2.5 years!   The adventure didn’t stop there. I went out on a speedboat and was thrilled to have dolphins follow and play around the boat. I even had the chance to see magnificent sperm whales up close!   São Miguel may be a small island, but it offers an abundance of experiences and natural beauty. I’m so grateful for this incredible journey and can’t wait for the next adventure!    Looking ahead to this autumn, I'm excited about the packed schedule of events designed to educate and inspire you. There are too many events to list here, so be sure to check out our webpage for all the details (link in comments below)!"   #HorsebackRiding #SãoMiguel #Azores #lifescience #sciencepark
