The 2024 knee OA clinical care standards are out. Allow me to cherry-pick some of the many recommendations that should be implemented by all allied health and fitness professionals. I would like to emphasize the importance of factors that were requirements in the MoovmentPro SaaS by Qinematic: A. ASSESS FUNCTION B. COMMUNICATION and EDUCATION C. INVOLVE THE PATIENT IN GOAL SETTING D. EXERCISE PRESCRIPTION E. PERSONALISATION OF CARE (BASED ON AN ASSESSMENT) Recommendations: 1. 'Physical examination and functional assessment of the affected knee(s). 2. Tailoring the plan to address their individual physical, functional, and psychosocial needs and goals 3. Enable remotely delivered or telehealth options to be provided for education and self-management 4. Provide advice on exercise that is specific to the patient’s needs 5. For patients who require surgery, being physically active can help to improve functional outcomes after the operation and optimise their recovery 6. Loss of excess weight reduces knee pain and improves function for patients with knee osteoarthritis, and can improve other comorbidities. 7. Consider supporting systems for clinicians to use tools during appointments dedicated to patient review 8. Assess whether the patient has undertaken optimal non-surgical management, such as 12 weeks of optimal physical activity and exercise. Note: 1. Passive manual therapies, such as therapeutic ultrasound and electrotherapy, do not play a significant role in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis Link https://lnkd.in/dQWH_iSv
