Thank you, CHEManager International, for featuring us!
ISC3 Start-up of the Month in October 2024 Renasens - No #Waste, Only Resources: The female-led Swedish start-up Renasens AB has developed a clean, waterless #recycling technology that transforms textile waste into valuable new resources. This innovative technology maintains fibre quality at the macromolecular level without deconstruction or #depolymerization, ensuring high energy efficiency. Additionally, Renasens’ process extracts dyes and additives from textiles prior to recycling, offering a comprehensive solution for the fashion and textile industries to manage end-of-life products and generate circular raw materials. This breakthrough innovation tackles major environmental challenges, including reducing landfill waste, mitigating #microplastic pollution, and preventing water contamination from textile production. For these reasons, Renasens has been chosen as one of the International Sustainable Chemistry Collaborative Centre (ISC3) Innovation Challenge 2024 finalists and is featured as the International Sustainable Chemistry Collaborative Centre (ISC3) #Startup of the Month for October 2024. (...) Renasens’ mission is deeply rooted in #sustainability, aligning with several of the #UN's Agenda 2030 goals. By using clean, waterless, and energy-efficient technology to recover fibres and extract dyes, the company promotes the revalorization of resources within planetary boundaries. The whole success story of the ISC3 Start-up of the Month in October 2024 is currently told by the ISC3 and on #CMI online: https://lnkd.in/e6uvXNES

Excited and proud to have Norrsken Launcher backing us on this journey! Their support is a big step forward in realising our vision. Thank you for believing in our mission!
Launcher + Renasens = 💚 The textile industry is a significant contributor to global pollution, responsible for up to 10% of greenhouse gas emissions, 20% of water pollution, and 35% of microplastic pollution in oceans. Despite this, textile waste keeps piling up and only 1% is recycled. A major challenge has been efficiently recycling blended textiles, such as polycotton which make up 50% of global textile waste. That's why we’re excited to announce our investment in Renasens. Renasens, founded by Dr. Jade Abir Bouledjouidja, a chemical engineer with a PhD from Aix-Marseille University, has developed a breakthrough technology at KTH that finally makes textile recycling commercially viable. The technology was originally inspired by NASA's use of supercritical fluids to clean spacesuits. It efficiently recycles polycotton, without depolymerisation or degradation, turning it into high-quality recycled polyester and cotton yarns with minimal waste, lower energy use, and extraction of additives and colourants. The result is recycled yarn that’s not only sustainable but also cost-effective. With a proven track record of scaling complex innovations and unmatched dedication, Jade Abir Bouledjouidja is on a mission that we’re proud to join – turning waste into resources and closing the textile loop. We look forward to rolling up our sleeves and working together. Bienvenue à Norrsken Launcher, Renasens! 🚀

Members of the European Parliament agree to extend producer responsibility (EPR) schemes, through which producers that sell textiles in the EU would have to cover the costs for collecting, sorting and recycling them separately. Member states would have to establish these schemes 18 months after the entry into force of the directive. We need strong and sharp regulations in order to limit the impact of the textile industry on the planet !
The European Parliament adopted today its proposals on the revision of the Waste Framework Directive (#WFD), aiming to better prevent and reduce waste from food and textiles across the EU. 📌The new rules encompass various textile products, including clothing, accessories, blankets, bed linen, curtains, hats, footwear, mattresses, and carpets, as well as items containing textile-related materials like leather, composition leather, rubber, or plastic. 📌MEPs have also approved the extension of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes, requiring producers selling textiles in the EU to bear the costs of separate collection, sorting, and recycling.
