At Scania, we are proud of our products and occasionally receive awards for fuel-efficient vehicles. For this to happen and to lead the way to sustainable transport, we need great people. So when sustainability manager of the year 2021, Andreas Follér, moved on to a position in TRATON Group, we welcomed the sustainability manager of the year 2023 Fredrik Nilzén, known from the world of banking. Since he basically grew up in a truck, he is back to his roots, with a mindset that revolves around what he can inspire others to accomplish to scale up change, maximise people’s potential, and create value. As an endurance athlete who navigates demanding terrain and swims in open water for fun (and in the occasional World Championships), a high-performing team is essential. “I believe in the power of the team and what people can accomplish together.” So what makes him get out of bed in the morning – except for 3,000 meters of open water swimming? It’s the love for business and the care for people. His passions can be boiled down to a few essentials: “Sustainable business models, digitalisation and making large societal impact via business and partnerships.” But the favourite? “Building strong teams with ambitious goals and adding a challenge worth striving for.” #sustainability

Electrifying boats is not the same as electrifying trucks and buses. The sea is different in terms of its weather conditions and the possibilities for charging infrastructure. However, the demand for reliable products is something sea and land share. Vessels also benefit from switching between different operating modes, where electricity is integral. Full story:

“As an engineering student, I usually focus on numbers and results,” Diana Nehard, says. “But this summer was a real eye-opener of how much the culture and the people in production make a difference.“ Last Thursday, Scania’s Student Internship Programme participants presented their final projects on the subject 'team spirit', one of Scania’s core values. During their six weeks of internship, the students studied how well the team spirit was incorporated into the daily work and if they could find any improvements in this area. Finally, it was time to present their findings to a full house at the Markus Wallenberg Hall auditorium. The audience, consisting of group managers and production leaders from different departments as well as executive board members, was impressed. “It is a blessing to get uncensored feedback AND creative ideas on how to boost team spirit, says Fabio Castello, Head of Traton Logistics. “They have done a great job with thorough research and a fantastic presentation.” "A 15-minute check-in a week and improved interior design were two of the many insightful suggestions", Per Nilsson, Head of Chassis, Cab, Battery and Bus Production, continues. “I’m convinced we will see several of the ideas presented here today implemented in our production in the future.” A big thank you to all the participants and well done! Transitioning from academic life to the professional world is a significant step for many graduates. Scania´s I-Talent program, designed to ease this transition, has proven to be an invaluable experience for those who participate. Among them is Edit Lundgren, who joined the program in the fall of 2023 and has since embarked on an exciting career as an Automation Engineer. Edit's motivation for joining the I-Talent program was clear: "It felt like the perfect transition from university student to the first actual job in the field." She was drawn to the program's unique blend of learning opportunities, including both soft and hard skills, and the chance to connect with fellow graduates navigating the same pivotal career stage. The program delivered more than just an introduction to the professional world. Edit gained a comprehensive understanding of Scania, from its rich history to its lean production processes and the diverse departments within the company. Moreover, the program offered insights into effective ways of working, leadership, and various management styles—knowledge that Edit believes will serve her throughout her career.
