Circularity is a top priority at Scania. By adopting a circular business model, we ensure access to the materials we need while staying competitive by keeping product costs down. This approach separates business growth from resource consumption, and creates value for our customers throughout the vehicle cycle. In this Q&A, we spoke with Dr. Michael Lieder, Scania’s business developer for circular economy, to explore why circularity matters and the progress we’ve made in the area so far.

“Being allowed to fail creates an environment where everyone is more willing to take on responsibilities.” Sinchana Kallesara divides her work at Scania between two roles: Developer and Scrum Master within Autonomous Vehicles. But she says that coping with two roles is not a problem. “Being able to combine being a Scrum Master with also being a Developer is great for my sense of perspective. I get to see both sides of our work, and it makes me better in both roles.” After gaining a bachelor's degree in information science, Sinchana started her career as a Developer in India, before moving to Sweden. “The Swedish work culture is something I really appreciate, where work-life balance and well-being of employees are priorities. In addition, I value the continuous dialogue about the next step of one’s career here at Scania. Being able to discuss your wants and needs openly to make that next career step possible is inspiring and a motivation to keep striving.” Sinchana has been working at Scania for just over two years. “My team have a lot of fun together," she says. "I’d say we have the opposite of blame culture, and we make sure to help each other. I’m convinced our team spirit is a key ingredient in our results.”

Over the years, his role evolved from Lead SAP Finance Solution Architect to his latest challenge, Head of Finance Core and Group Manager. Starting in January 2025, Anupam is driving Scania’s financial and technological strategies forward. Why SAP matters in automotive? In the evolving automotive industry, staying ahead of technological trends is crucial. As part of the TRATON Group, Scania is committed to integrating SAP across its operations, ensuring consistency and connectivity within the group. He ensures that our financial systems are robust, standardised, and capable of adapting to the fast-paced changes in the industry. He has since seen the successful launch of the SAP system in the new battery assembly factory in Södertälje, Sweden. Next on the horizon? Supporting Scania’s new industrial hub in China. With a strong inner drive and curiosity about leadership, and how strategic initiatives and processes best can contribute to effective solutions, Sofia Simonsson, People and Culture Manager at the Chassis plant in Södertälje, has come to the right place. “For me, personal development, opportunities, and versatility in assignments and within the company mean the most.” Her job is filled with diverse tasks and ever-changing days, but no matter where in Scania’s processes we operate, people are always a central and decisive factor. “My background in soccer has shaped my ability to work in various contexts, to set goals and make them achievable by turning them into actionable steps. Elements that are all very present at Scania.” She highlights how she feels a strong passion for striving forward together, and that her eye for details is of great value: “I identify areas that impact multiple aspects of the result, and translate them into improvement areas.” But, most of all, what inspires Sofia the most are colleagues driven by sharing thoughts, ideas and creating together. Even though she enjoys being a part of an environment with high energy levels and where creativity is second nature, she believes that it’s essential to paus, reflect and assess both needs and benefits. “It helps me remain resilient and courageous through times of change.” #IWD25

Fatima Strand’s journey with Scania began as an engineer in 2007 and currently, she’s our Service Director at Scania Japan. This means a lot of hands-on work: “I really love being out in the field, to be close to the decisions that make a real difference.” She can’t stress the importance of her team enough, from back-office support to frontline staff: “It’s super rewarding to be a part of.” Except for managing the service operations with workshop sites and parts supplies, she ensures our customers have the best possible assistance with quality and warranties. “Living in Japan, it’s a great experience in itself. Being in this fast-growing market makes me develop professionally. I also gain a deeper understanding of new cultures, and that challenges my way of working and my leadership.” Fatima embraces how Scania takes on leadership: to foster collaboration and lead by example. “We have a strong focus on fulfilling one's responsibilities while assisting and engaging with others' challenges.” This is something that gives results: “The rewards are big. Experience and insights come with this approach.” #IWD25

Maria Badici embraced the challenge as Dealer Director at Scania Romania for the South-East Region of Romania a couple of years ago. “The role allows me to apply my experience, leadership skills, and passion for building strong teams in a dynamic and fast-moving industry.” She started at Scania in 2008, and from the beginning, she knew this company was different. “It’s not just a workplace—it is where people grow, evolve, and are truly valued. Scania has shaped me as a professional, and today, it feels like a second home and a second family.” The transport and automotive sectors are still male-dominated, and to be a woman and a leader is not always easy, as navigating challenges requires resilience, adaptability, and a strong belief in one’s own abilities. “I see this as an opportunity to break barriers, inspire other women to pursue leadership roles, and drive change in the industry.” Maria thinks the best thing about working at Scania is being close to the business. “I love to be involved in strategic decision-making, understanding market dynamics, and working closely with my team and customers to create value.” And her team means everything. “I believe leadership is about being present, connected, and supportive. For me, success comes from working closely with people, empowering them, and fostering a culture where they feel valued, inspired, and motivated to perform at their best.” #IWD25

On International Women’s Day, we highlight our progress in female leadership at Scania. We uphold this commitment every day and know there’s still a long way to go. Diversity is one of our corporate targets because frankly, it’s better for business. We strive for a balance since diverse leadership leads to better decisions, stronger teams, and innovation. Currently, the number of women who are leaders is about 24 percent at Scania. We strive to reach 30 percent by 2030, and the long-term ambition exceeds that. Why start with managers? Because we need to start at the top. Women need women as role models. To work with diversity is vital, and in a disruptive world, even more so. It’s our firm opinion that more female leaders, and more diversity overall, are extremely important. Watch this video for a short introduction to Scania’s work on female leaders. #IWD25
