SOLVATTEN® is a good cause company that has developed portable solar-powered driven purifying devices for heating and treating water. We work with local organizations and corporations to reach the underserved communities and people living off-grid. Solvatten connects social impact with business needs as it greatly benefits the supply chain in agro-business, community services, and collective applications. More than 600.000 people benefit from the technology, primarily in rural East Africa. Properly used, Solvatten will bring health impact for ten years or more. Safe and hot water (up to 75°C) adds value to the user because it makes life more accessible, and the savings that Solvatten brings motivates people to use the product over the years continuously. In today's world, where we face big environmental problems and need sustainable solutions, Solvatten is a game-changer. It helps both people in emergencies and communities trying to cope, adapt and develop in a better way. By using the power of the sun to clean and heat water, Solvatten not only helps right away but also plans for a stronger future. Solvatten is a good example how to bridge the gap between the humanitarian operations and the development sector. A wide realization in our society that renewable energy is needed for everything - including for the many purposes of water. Solar water heating for boiling and treatment should be obvious choice and its easy to include Solvatten in both humanitarian and the development operations and plans ahead. However sustainability is not just replacing everything to renewables. At the core is also that we need to feel and empathize with one another in a time of multiplying crises. Empathy is a force for innovation. Empathy is a concept that market and service provision have a hard time to deliver. Water related diseases are growing human tragedy, killing more than 5 million people each year. That’s 10 times the number of people killed in wars. About 2.3 billion people suffer from diseases linked to dirty water. Some 60% of child mortality worldwide is linked to infectious and parasitic diseases, most of them water related. It has to stop. YSTAD SUMMIT. Till 2050 behöver vi öka den globala livsmedelsproduktionen med 56 procent för att mätta en växande befolkning. Hur gör vi det i områden som vi vet kommer drabbas av extremväder i allt större utsträckning? Det diskuterade vi på Ystad Summit igår på seminariet ”Så kan svensk innovation bidra till mat och vatten i klimatdrabbade områden”. Med oss i panelen hade vi tre partners från greentech-sektorn: Emerging Cooking Solutions, Spowdi och Solvatten som på olika sätt bidrar till en mer klimatvänlig värld där fler familjer kan äta sig mätta. Vi gästades också av Ida Svensson från Tetra Pak som berättade om företagets humanitära projekt runt om i världen, bland annat att säkra tillgången till mat och vatten i katastrofområden. 💧Panelen lyfte NGO:s som viktiga partners för att nå de personer och områden som idag behöver den nya tekniken som bäst. Men också behovet av nya finansieringsmodeller och försäkringar för att små bolag snabbt ska kunna skala upp och nå fler med mer. 💧Hur tillgång till mat och rent vatten gör skillnad för barnen berättade Barnfondens generalsekreterare Martina Hibell. Osäkra skördar och dålig ekonomi i familjerna leder till att fler barn missar skolan, tvingas arbeta eller gifts bort. Genom att säkra mat och vatten fyller vi inte bara de basala behoven utan stärker samtidigt både barns rättigheter och jämställdheten. #ystadsummit #barnsrättigheter #barnfonden
