Niclas Nilsson, Malin Graffner Nordberg och Lisa Ericsson 🇸🇪, ansvariga för innovationskontoren vid Lund University, Uppsala University och KTH Royal Institute of Technology har tagit fram en rapport över antal bolagsstarter sedan 2010, samt deras samlade ekonomiska effekt. – Svenska universitet har avsevärd förmåga att bidra till att nya bolag skapas baserat på den forskning och utbildning som bedrivs. Rapporten visar på betydelsen av det tidiga stöd som universitetens innovationskontor och holdingbolag erbjuder forskare och studenter. Vi hoppas att den blir en språngbräda för fortsatt dialog om universitetens roll som motor för både tillväxt och en bredare samhällsnytta, säger Malin Graffner Nordberg vid UU Innovation. 1 000 nya aktiebolag har sedan 2010 knoppats av från Lunds universitet, Uppsala universitet och Kungliga Tekniska högskolan (KTH), Sveriges tre ledande universitet enligt QS World University Rankings. Under år 2022 hade bolagen tillsammans 3 836 anställda, omsatte 6,7 miljarder kronor samt beräknas ha genererat nästan 2 miljarder i skatteintäkter. Closing the day before Midsummer’s Eve with a delightful visit from the South Korean LINC 3.0 Project Group. Their mission to explore and gain insights into R&D initiatives, industry-academia collaboration, and startup incubation brought them to #Sweden and Uppsala University. A highlight of the visit was the engaging discussions with our esteemed researchers and innovators, Professor Urban Lundin and Professor Ulf Landegren. They generously shared their experiences on transforming groundbreaking research into viable businesses, emphasizing the crucial conditions and lessons learned in this process. A special thank you to Urban and Ulf for contributing to such an inspiring program. Your insights on creating applications and startups from research are invaluable.

2024 ScSB Research Award winner is Cecilia Persson! Cecilia Persson, the 2024 ScSB Award winner, has a genuine interest in applying basic research to clinical applications. She has achieved pioneering results by leading research that combines materials science, mechanical engineering, and biological engineering. Additionally, Cecilia succeeds in enabling research outcomes by making innovative materials available through companies; for example, she is a co-founder of Inossia. She is also actively involved in creating new, larger national and international consortia in the field of biomaterials. Her current scientific activities include: 💡 Professor in Applied Materials Science with Specialization in Biomaterials at Uppsala University 💡 Leader of the BioMaterial Systems Research Group at Uppsala University 💡 Coordinator of NU-Spine network 💡Director of Vinnova Competence Center of Additive Manufacturing for the Life Sciences 💡Treasurer in the Swedish Society of Biomechanics Warm congratulations from the ScSB community!

Success continues for cancer researcher and innovator Marika Nestor, who is at the forefront of developing antibody-based molecular radiotherapy for cancer. She has now been granted SEK 18 million to collaborate with a national network of researchers and doctors to transition this pioneering treatment from the lab to the clinic. "Receiving a Flagship grant from the Sjöberg Foundation is an honor and an opportunity to make a real difference for cancer patients in Sweden," says Marika Nestor, Professor at the Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology. Professor Tobias Sjöblom, also at the Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology, has been awarded a substantial multi-million SEK grant from the Sjöberg Foundation for a research collaboration focused on identifying blood proteins that can be used for early cancer detection.
